Shane Weston
Shane Weston was nice enough to give me some time in between riding and having dinner with his pops to talk about his new signature Eclat Blind Freecoaster. Before we get into the interview, I want to just throw up Shane’s most recent web edit for his signature frame. He does an amazing long backwards manual to barspin that’s just too good not to post here. This definitely shows you the scope of riding that this coaster can handle.
So, lets start with the usual quick background info. Age? Years riding?and when did you start running a free coaster?
I’m 25 years old and I’ve been riding for 12 years. I got a free coaster shortly after seeing Ian Schwartz’s bio, I don’t remember a date.
What are your favorite spots to ride, and who do you enjoy riding with on a daily basis?
Favorite spots are both in Nashville. The Courthouse and the Legislative. I enjoy just cruising with friends. We have a group of 5 and we try to ride or chill everyday.
How much slack do you typically run, and do you use a lot of pedal pressure for tricks?
I run the slack as maxed as I can. I love a good size gap. I do use pedal pressure on anything that has to do with a full cab. But other then that, nope.
How many different kinds of coasters have you ridden over the years?
My first one was a Poverty. I think its still going to. 6 total including the Eclat Blind coaster I’m running.
How long has your signature coaster with Eclat been in testing?
I think they have been testing these for well over a year. I have had minor problems. But I am currently running a production model one and it’s holding up amazing!
Are there other guys out there testing it? Who?
Yeah, I saw a few guys in Germany where the WeMakeThings headquarters are located testing them.
I know I’ve seen a couple different looking versions of your Blind coaster pictured online. Has it just been minor changes to the shape of the shell, or changes to the internals as well?
It’s all shell changes. Eclat wanted to put it in a cassette shell then changed it to give it its own identity. I love the new shell!!
So I noticed it will work with a hubguard, will that be alloy or plastic?
Umm, I’m not sure. I think alloy.
Is it going to have a drive side hubguard option?
I haven’t seen a drive side hub guard.
I have to ask because it’s one of my favorite tricks, How well does it crankflip?
I couldn’t tell a difference at all!
There’s a lot of people really anxious to get there hands on one, so what do you think the release date is going to be?
I’m not to sure on the date haha, sorry I don’t seem to be much help with these coaster questions. I’m still in the dark on things.
Who are some of you favorite coaster riders?
Man definitely Ian Schwartz, Dan Cox, Jared Washington(when he had the coaster), Bruce Crisman, Matthias Dandois, and Seth Kimbrough.
Anybody you’d like to give a shout out to?
Yeah, my family and friends. Fly, Eclat, Ipath, Dan’s Comp, and Fuse Pads for making this an awesome year. Also Free-coaster.com for having me!
