Here’s an interesting one that Jon over at Can You Dig It tipped us off to. Intel have developed this chip that can collect a bunch of data that can be some what valuable to BMX riders like speed, rotation and height. Above is a video they produced giving you a little insight into what this chip, which they are calling Curie, is capable of. The BMX video above features Victor Salazar and Matt Cordova catching a session and looking at the numbers that Curie produces from their runs. Now, you might have noticed that I referred to that data as some what valuable. One of the biggest reasons I say that is because a lot of riding is going off feel and what feels right for you. If you case, you know to go faster or pump better, if you under rotate, you are definitely going to know it. However, this kind of data can be real beneficial if it could be tied into contests some how. Speed, height and rotation data could be really beneficial when it comes to scoring a contest. Shit, if it could detect what tricks were being done and rider style, we might even have a way to replace the judge all together. That’s almost a scary thought though, haha. Either way, technology is advancing and it’s pretty cool seeing a large corporation like Intel looking at BMX as a great way to test their products.

You can learn all about Curie on the Intel website.
