Haro – The Radical Rick Bike

December 7, 2022

Haro and Radical Rick have released a collaboration bike!

Now this is pretty rad! Haro have teamed up with Radical Rick to do a special edition cruiser bike that comes in 24″, 26″ and 29″ sizes with the same custom graphics and pad set designed by Damian Fulton. The bikes are available for $779.99 (24″) to $799.99 (29″) on the Haro website or through your favorite BMX shop or mail-order that carries Haro now!

“In 1979 artist Damian Fulton began drawing what is now the most iconic cartoon in BMX; Radical Rick. Along with characters like MX Mug, Spike Speedwrench and the infamous Skuzzer Switchblade, Radical Rick grew into one of BMX’s most historical figures through the pages of BMX Plus! magazine. Over the course of the last year, we collaborated with Fulton to bring his art to life through these Radical Rick-themed 24″, 26″ and 29″ models. If you’re thinking that this might be the perfect combination of design, history, and bike life, we’d most definitely agree.

AVAILABLE NOW HERE.

“Before I was fully engulfed by the world of BMX, I found a magazine at my elementary school library and in the back of it was a comic strip featuring a rider by the name of Radical Rick. As I found more an more issues of BMX Plus, I found myself skipping to the comic strip first. Over 30 years later, I get that same feeling again as I announce the Subrosa X Radical Rick collaboration!
Around 1985 or 86 I found a BMX magazine in my school’s library, and I could not put it down. I was about 6 years old, and it was the first time I learned that there was a magazine for what I was into, and I checked it out of the library that week, and every week for the rest of the school year. The magazine was BMX Plus.

I saw photos of racers, and I saw photos of freestyle for the first time. I saw cool clothes, new and special products, BMX advertisements, and I was introduced to my new favorite rider Radical Rick.

Radical Rick was a two-paged comic strip created by Damian Fulton that ran in the back BMX Plus Mag all throughout my childhood, but the comic lived long before I first saw it. Staring in 1979, it ran in every issue through 1993! After that it continued to run in the mag as reprints into the early 2000s!

Damian enjoys a career continuing to create paintings and artwork, but Radical Rick lives on in our hearts and now can live on you and your ride!

Subrosa is stoked to introduce the raddest member of the team, Radical Rick!

Stay Rad!” – Subrosa

Through The Lens – Creative Minds: The Creator of Radical Rick

April 3, 2013

Radical Rick BMX

For this weeks feature I decided to continue the Creative Minds series and instantly thought of Damian Fulton. For those of you out there that don’t know, Damian is the creator responsible for the entire Radical Rick comic strip series that was featured in BMX Plus! magazines for over a decade. For many readers out there, it was THE reason to pick up a copy of Plus! and had a pretty big following. There wasn’t a BMX rider out there that wasn’t down with Radical Rick. The series was always fresh, and Damian was putting out solid content month after month. I have a ton of respect for him and can’t believe he ran it for so long. I know all too well that dealing with deadlines on a regular basis can be a huge pain in the ass. So the fact that he made it work, regardless of his already packed schedule says a lot about his love for the work he was doing and the product he was creating. After tracking him down I caught up with him at his Southern California home and was honored to have the chance to hear about all things Radical Rick from the man himself. Obviously this feature was aimed for the old school heads out there but it’s also a bit of a history lesson for the younger generation so hopefully everyone gets a little something out of it.

Radical Rick X Nowear Collaboration

March 18, 2013

RR1

About a month or so ago, Karl Hinkley from NoWear mentioned during a session at Bluff Valley that he was working with the original artist who did all of the old Radical Rick cartoons in BMX Plus! back in the day. They’ve been working on a bunch of designs that will bring the two together and it sounds like they will be dropping later this year and in 2014. Honestly, this is going to be awesome as hell! Can’t wait to see how it turns out. I’m sure there’s a few older dudes who are pumped on this too.

“ NOWEAR is extremely proud to present it’s “Damian series” this year. Damian and NoWear have partnered up to combine the best of 2 worlds. I am submitting to him rough ideas I have had packed away and he is helping tweak them and do the art. We are doing 2 series so far for sure each consisting of 5 designs each series. Series 1 will be available this year starting in mid August. RAD Series by NOWEAR will unveil 1 shirt each month from Aug to Dec. Release dates on Series 2 in 2014 will be announced later on our web and Facebook. If all goes well we may continue the project. It goes without saying that each design will be extremely unique that everyone will have a hard time deciding weather or not to wear it or hang it on their wall. For the hardcore Rad Rick fans, never fear there will be a NOWEAR shirt that features Rick himself.” – Karl Hinkley / NoWear
