Product: Fit Bike Co. – Blade V3 Fork

November 18, 2015

Let’s take a closer look at the Blade V3 Fork from Fit Bike Co….

Is it time for a new BMX Fork? Well, Fit Bike Co.‘s Blade V3 fork might be just what you’re looking for. This fork is made from 100% 4130 chromoly with a 4Q Baked post-weld heat-trement. The fork features a 1-piece 166mm long CNC machined steerer tube with an integrated headset race, tapered and butted legs that are swaged to produce a rounded end on the fork that is formed, not welded that eliminates a welded end cap, Investment Cast 33mm offset drop outs and a M24 x 1.5 compression cap to keep everything tight.

The new Blade V3 fork is available in chrome and matte black through BMX shops and mail-orders that carry Fit Bike Co. worldwide now with a price tag of $109.99 – $119.99. You can also buy the fork on the Fit Bike Co. website.

Update: We had a question on Facebook asking how these are Investment Cast drop outs since there are welds. The photo above might help. It is a little confusing, but hopefully this helps to make some sense out of it. There’s two factors involved in this one. First, the drop outs are Investment Cast versus CNC machined, so they go through the casting process to give them the shape and look (and that clean Fit logo). It still looks like a traditional drop out on its own, except it fits inside the fork leg versus being welded to the outside of the fork.

Then, we need to look at the legs. The legs are swaged which means that the tubing is formed to be all one piece, so there’s no actual end cap. The legs actually wrap around the bottom versus having a point where they stop and an additional cap welded to close the hole like most forks.

Fit then uses a strong welded bead to weld the Investment Cast drop out to the leg to hold it all together. Traditionally we see Investment Cast drop outs that include part of the leg, which is inserted into the bottom of shortened leg and welded higher up, then grinded down to give it a smooth, clean one-piece look. The Blade V3 is just taking an Investment Cast Drop out plate, and combining it with the Swaged Legs, so it’s not the traditional “Investment Cast” that some of you are familiar with.

Let us know in the comments if this makes sense.
