As you can see, the site has changed. The design has been freshened up, and the direction of the site will, in a sense, be changing up starting today as well. Back in 2007, BMXunion was started with no real intension on it going anywhere beyond a college project. In 2011, The Union is becoming a full-time project that will focus on the BMX industry…
I won’t deny that back in 2007, I didn’t really know where things were going and that I really sucked at what I did. I still suck, but I’ve gained a lot of knowledge of the industry through interviews, trips, and meeting people. Learning these things opened up a whole different perspective of BMX to me, and I’ve come to accept that most people out there really don’t see or know much beyond who the pros are and what colors a certain part comes in. I’ve always been real interested in the way things work, and seeing how the business side of BMX has been one of those things that amazes me. That’s why I’ve come to decide to focus full-time on The Union and direct it towards in the “industry” side of BMX. This is something I’ve had in my mind for two years and it’s finally getting a chance to happen.
In the future, you will be seeing a lot of interviews with pros and up and comers like you have in the past, but I’ll also be doing a lot more to introduce you to the brands and the people who are producing the parts on your bike, the clothing you wear, and all the other things in BMX you don’t necessarily think of. There will also be a lot of product features that give you some insight into what makes a product what it is, interviews with photographers, filmers and editors, and more product reviews.
I will also be doing a “Daily” section which you can find in the tab up top. You will be able to find all the daily web videos, pro and brand news, flyers, etc there, it just won’t be the primary focus of the site so that’s why it’s in the back.
I’ve decided to step down from doing the DIG website to focus on this project. It was a hard decision to make, but felt it was the right time. I’ll still be doing the product section, along with anything else they can cook up for me like before in the magazine, just not the website. I chose Andrew Brady to fill in my spot, so expect a lot of real good original content out of him through the site! And no, I won’t be back at The Come Up since I’m sure a few of your noticed the few days I was helping out last week.
I have no idea where things will be going, but I’m going with it. Hopefully there will be a constant flow of original content and features that people find it worth checking out. I’d like to thank everyone right off the bat for the support over the years from brands who have helped me out, everyone at DIG, Adam at TCU, everyone who has done an interview, and everyone who has checked out the site so far. I’m looking forward to what becomes of The Union, and hope you are psyched on it. Check back often since things will be going up all the time!
