Next up on our list was the Profile Racing and Madera booth. This one was a stop I’ve been looking forward to because there had been some rumors about the Profile Freecoaster that I wanted to find out about. Turns out that the rumors were way wrong… Let’s get a closer look at that hub!
Alright, so the rumor that we were hearing was that the Z-Coaster from Profile Racing was scrapped and they were no longer doing a freecoaster. Turns out, they hadn’t heard these rumors themselves even, haha. The hub has seen a few changes, but it’s still happening. The freecoaster has a pretty interesting design that’s essentially a cassette hub that becomes a freecoaster when it’s disengaged from a slight back pedal. We couldn’t get a look inside, but we know it uses the Elite hub shell, the slack can be adjusted with a single plate that has 3 adjustment points and there are a few unique pieces, like the pawls, they had to custom design to make it work. There are a few samples going out to team riders, so it’s still a little ways out, but Profile is confident it will be out early next year if things stick to plan.
Here’s a look at the Profile logo Mini hub that will be available soon. Profile have a few very limited run projects like this one that we will be seeing surface in the near future as well.
