Anton Arnarson Interview

Well, unless you have been avoiding the web videos these days, there’s no way you haven’t seen one of Anton’s edtis that have been popping up like crazy. From the edits I was able to gather that he was from Iceland, he had a big bag of tricks, wears a helmet and recently took a trip to the U.S. That’s about all I knew, so I figured it would be cool to find out a little bit more about the guy. Let’s take a look at what he had to say…

Name: Anton Örn Arnarson

Location: Reykjavik the capital of Iceland

Sponsors: Not worldwide but here in Iceland I’m sponsored by Mountain Dew, DC, Mongoose and Scattered

Years riding: Since 2007.

What was it that first got you into BMX? Any early memories come to mind?
I bougth my first BMX with 4 pegs and used it to give my friends a ride home from school.

I feel like the scene in Iceland is just starting to get some attention. How’s the scene where you live? Any up and comers you think people should keep any eye out for?
I live in the biggest city in Iceland and there’s A LOT of good spots. I’m always finding a new one to ride! Some of my friends are getting really good too.

How are things going with Scattered these days? Do you have anything going on with them at all you can tell us about?
I’m filming clips for the new upcoming Scattered DVD and I really want to visit them in Uk one day.

You’re also riding for DC, right? How are things going with them?
I’m riding for the DC dealer in Iceland. I get shoes, tees and stuff from him.

Any other sponsor news you have going on?
Nothing at the moment.

So you recently made a trip over to the U.S. What was that for? How long were you here for? Where did you go? What did you think?
I went to US with my family for 18 days. I went to New Hampshire and Jersey. I met a lot of nice riders who showed me around.
I also went to the Highland MTB Park and there was Aaron Chase, Cam Mcaul and more guys just chillin’.

Do you have any more plans on coming back or going anywhere else anytime soon? Where are some places you want to get to?
No, first of all I need money to travel. But hopefully someday I’ll be able to visit Barcelona and San Diego.

There’s no point in asking if you have an edit coming out. I’ll just ask when the next one will drop? What can people expect from it?
haha, next week! I learned truck drops the other day.

Have you been working on anything outside of web edits? Video parts or anything like that?
Just the video part for Scattered!

I’ve noticed you are always wearing a helmet. Not a bad thing at all. What made you choose to ride with one? Any accidents or did you just get smart faster than everyone else?
I faceplanted without helmet and knocked out, killed two teeths and my face looked like pizza. After that I deciced to use my helmet a little bit more.

I’d imagine you grew up seeing videos of all these pros over in the U.S and throughout the world. Who were some of your earliest people you were influenced by?
I didn’t start to watch online BMX videos until 2 years ago. Cameron Wood was my favourite.

Who are some of the riders you are most psyched on now days?
Garret Reynolds, Ty morrow, Tony Hamlin and Zack Gerber are my favourites.

I’ve noticed you like to huck yourself over some pretty big stuff. What’s the craziest thing you personally feel like you have done on your bike?
360 down 13 stair set. It was scaaary.

What’s one trick you can’t do for the life of you?
I popped my shoulder out of joint last winter and I haven’t be able to do X-ups since then.

Let’s say you get an all expenses paid trip for one week with any 5 riders in the world. Who do you bring, where do you go and why?
I really want to street riding in Barcelona with Garret Reynolds, Ty morrow, Tony Hamlin, Zack Gerber and Sean Sexton

I’m also into motorcross and that would definitely be the first thing I’d get into.

What are you usually up to when you aren’t riding?
Hanging out with my GF, Motorcross, eating ice cream, meeting friends, working, listening to music.

How are the girls in Iceland compared to the U.S? Any preference?
There’s no MCdonals in Iceland…

Are you going to school or working at all? What’s the worst job you have had?
I went to school for carpenter(almost finshed), but now I’m working in a bike shop. I haven’t had any bad jobs.. yet.

Do you party much? What makes for a good night out?
Not really. GF, beer, camping, and friends!!

What’s something about yourself that might surprise people?
Like everbody in US was surprised that I am from Iceland

Are you really good at anything other than BMX?
Motorcross is so much fun and I also like riding mountain bike tracks.

You are caught up in a robbery. Are you the hero or are you screaming like a girl and curled up in a ball?
Somewhere in the middle.. haha

What’s the last song you heard, movie you watched and website you visited?
Gregory Isaacs – Night Nurse, Hitch. www.vimeo.com best site ever!

Where do you see yourself in a couple of years?
Riding BMX of course!! I also really want to move away from this cold shithole..

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
Thanks for everybody whos supporting me in what I do.

Anything else you want to say?
