It seems like every year I have come to Interbike for the past 5 years, I’ve been hoping that the Cyclops stem from Terrible One would have a “On sale now” sign on it… Which would be amazing… But things haven’t quite gone smooth up until recently…. Let’s take a peek at what’s going on with T1 these days.
All right, so here’s what I gathered from Joe Rich about the Cyclops stem. What you are seeing should be the final prototype and they will hopefully be doing the first production batch shortly after Interbike. Ken from Zodiac Engineering has been working on getting the stem all dialed in and they think they’ve finally got it all perfected. One of the big delays is the original guy doing the work left the picture a while ago and with that, all the designs and machining specs went missing. Which ultimately lead them to having to reverse engineer the stem from a prototype they had. Based on the amount of detail and everything, getting this done was probably a massive headache. Either way, they’ve finally got it figured out and if this stem you see is flawless, they will be doing a small production run with more shortly after.
So that doesn’t exactly say anything about when it will be available. Joe said in a perfect world he would like it out by the holidays. From what I can see and how dialed Ken’s work is, this should be totally do able. All I know is the light at the end of the tunnel is very near and this highly anticipated stem should be on your bike soon enough.
Otherwise, everything else with Terrible One is dialed as always. They’ve got new frames getting made by S&M and their Taiwan frames are dialed in as well. It should be a good year for T1 as a whole so I’m excited about that.
