Brendon Reith Interview

To be honest, Brendon is a new name to me. I saw it starting to pop up quite a bit lately. I hit up Derek Adams to get ahold of him to figure out what this kid was all about. Shortly after I had the chance to check out You Got That, a new video from the Infamy crew that he had a full part in (I’ll be doing a review over on Dig in the next day or two). The kid is really talented, and recently been given a lot of opportunities to accelerate. I got a chance to send him some questions and this is what he had to say. Expect big things from Brendon in the coming months…

Name: Brendon Reith

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Sponsors: Infamy Bmx, Fit Flow, Orchid Flow, 2×4 Flow, ODI Flow

Years riding: 6

We should probably start off talking about your new sponsors. How did things come up with Orchid and you? I’d imagine Dan Conway had a little say in that? What do you guys have planned so far with that?
Yeah, Dan definitely hooked it up. A couple days after our video dropped, I went up to Dereks house and he hooked me up with a couple pairs of fresh Orchids and some gear. I’m working on a web edit for Orchid right now and it should be droppin’ within the next month.

How did the Fit flow thing come up? Have you guys got into anything for plans down the road at all?
I got a call from Van a couple days after the premiere and he just asked me if I wanted to ride flow for Fit and 2×4. I tried to keep it cool on the phone, but in reality I was screaming my lungs off in my head thinking how crazy all of this is and how psyched I was to be able to ride for the most legit bike company out there. I was so stoked when I got that call! I’m also working on a web edit for Fit that my boy Larry Alverado is gonna edit for me once I get all my clips together… can’t wait.

I had the chance to check out your part in the You Got That video last night and all I kept thinking is “he makes it look effortless.” How do you feel about your part as a whole? Was it something you got everything you had into it, or was there some things left undone?
Haha, thanks homie!! I am very pleased with my part and how everything turned out. There was a couple of things I wanted to shoot in Philly that didn’t make it into the video. I’m gonna try to bang them out for these upcoming web edits, so it’s all good.

Has BMX always came pretty easy for you, or am I mistaken?
No way, like I definitely have seen myself progress over the period of filming for “You Got That”. Dan and I feed off each other and push each other to get shit done. It helps me progress a lot.

So you have been working on those two web videos. Is there anything else you are going to get done?
Yeah, I’m filming one for Orchid, and one for Fit. Once I’m done them, I’m gonna try to push myself to make one for 2×4 if everything works out.

There’s a clip that has been on the internet and in the video of you ghost riding your bike into a wall and your top tube and down tube sheers away from the head tube. After that happened did you get a little psyched out about the strength of the frame under your feet? I know you have done quite a few gnarly drops in your day…
No, that was completely my fault. Now that I’m gonna be riding a Fit frame I have nothing to worry about!!

It would appear you are pretty strictly a street rider. Do you ever get in on a skatepark or trails session at all?
Yeah, I love street. It’s all I know and I really don’t like trails one bit. Since I have no brakes and run Scerbos I would look kind of goofy riding trails. I mess around at the skateparks from here to there, but I mostly just chill with the homies when I do end up at a skatepark. I can’t really stand parks either, kids there take things way too serious and it kind of kills the mood.

Can you tell us a little about the Infamy BMX crew? What’s that all about?
Infamy BMX… I guess you could say was my first sponsor. I was so stoked that Ryan (owner) hooked me up with a part in his video. It’s basically just a local thing but I feel it’s going places ever since the video dropped, and soon it will be a legit company. If you live in the Philly area you know about Infamy. Ryan does basically everything over at Infamy from shirts to stickers to videos, check it out. If your lookin for a legit shirt for cheap hit him up, InfamyBMX.com and buy the video while your at it. haha

I know you are still in high school and everything so that makes travel a little harder. Do you have anything planned at all trip wise? Anywhere you would like to hit up in 2010?
Yeah, I’m a senior in high School right now and it’s pretty tough balancing out riding, school and work. This might sound bad, but as of right now I’m putting my riding first and concentrating way harder on that. As for trips, there is nothing planned. I have never traveled anywhere far with my bike. It would be pretty dope to go on a trip somewhere. I’m hoping in the future I’ll have chances to travel and ride my bike, that’s always been a dream of mine.

If you could go on a trip with 5 people and a huge budget for week to film. Where would you go, and who would you bring?
5? haha That’s not enough! I would definitely bring the whole Infamy crew, Orchid Crew, Fit and ODI crew. All those crews together would be unstopable, haha. I would probably go to Barcelona, I’ve always wanted to travel there ever since the Fit Barcelona video.

Who or what are your biggest influences when it comes to riding?
I look up to Dan Conway And Ryan Landman a lot. You could say they’re like my older brothers. They keep me on the right path and push me when it comes to riding. Without them I would probably be a mess, haha!

When was the last time you missed a peg on a rail? Is it true you can ice 180 pretty much anything?
Never I don’t think haha. You probably just jinxed me! I don’t know about anything. If you ask my friends they will probably tell you that I can, that’s definitely my favorite trick as of right now.

What do you think you would be up to if you never got into BMX?
I would probably be a D-bag that goes to parties every weekend and talks about how trashed I got, haha! Thank god for my bike.

What are you usually up to when you aren’t riding and destroying frames?
Chillin with the lady, drinkin some beer with the homies. Basically, I just chill when I’m not riding…most likely I’m on facebook but I hate facebook, haha.

So you’re a senior in high school. What’s your next step? College, work or what? Any plans?
Yeah, I’m goin to college. I’m hoping bike riding will make it so I just don’t have to work after school. As of right now Im concentrating hard on my riding and pushing myself to film a lot.

I’d imagine you have been tearing up the girls in your school. What’s your best attack method for panty dropping?
I just Flash em the Orchids and Fit t-shirt and they come runing after me, it’s crazy!! I can’t handle it hahaha.

So I hear you’re a pretty mature guy for your age… Do you feel like hanging around older guys who ride has been the reason behind that?
Yeah, definitely. I look at kids in my school and think they’re all tools and immature. I don’t wanna be anywhere close to being at their level. I’ve hung around older kids all my life, and I’ve always been the baby of the crew so I look up to all my homies and they have definitely turned me into a pretty cool dude.

Is there any stories behind your nicknames “Bronson” and “Benna”?
I have no idea where these nicknames come from, I have been being called Bronson for a while now and it just stuck. Dan calls me Benna because that’s what my mom calls me, and it’s pretty embarrasing, but I just go with it. haha Thanks, Dan.

What’s the last song you listened to, movie you watched and website you visited?
Meek Millz – Aint I, Jennifers Vody featuring Megan Fox <3, Facebook.com If a homeless man challenged you to a pee off. How would you handle the situation?
I would never whip out my dick near a bum. haha

Are you much of a partier? What makes for a good night out for you?
I’ll have a beer here and there, but I’m not really down with partying. I’m a pretty chill homie, a good night would be riding with the homies in Philly and coming back home to a share a cold beer with all my homies.

Have you ever been in any fights or been arrested or anything cool like that?
I was arrested once for steeling a garden gnome. I got put on probation and had to take piss tests in my school every 2 weeks. I felt like a badass gettin pulled out of class to take a piss test, the ladies loved it, hahah. I’ve never been in a fight, people don’t wanna mess with me. I got Philly on speed dial; Philly homies go hard! haha

If you could go back and relive any day in your life… Would you go back and when would you go to if you could?
Nope, I love everything that’s happened in my life and would never change it. That and it would be kind of creepy going back in time, haha.

What are some things you would like to accomplish in the next few years?
Travel a lot more, and get to ride wit the Fit homies!

What’s the best advice you have ever been given, or can give?
HIT EM WIT IT!! YOU GOT THAT!

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
Shout out to Meek Millz, Flamerz!, Dan Conway, Ryan Landman, Otto Ayala, Fran Meehan, Eric Capone, Dennis Bunn, Graham Cupit, Matty Miller, Tim Bane!, Nicky B for holdin it down in the Chocolate Truck house, everyone in Chocolate Truck, Mom and Pops, Van Homan, Nick Benson, Larry Alverado, Derek Adams, everyone over at 2×4 and anyone who has helped me out!!

Anything else you want to say?
