Since Darren Bouldin’s 17th Birthday he has been putting on bike jams. What started out as a small get together with some backyard ramps and just a handful of friends has grown over the years into becoming one of the biggest and most anticipated celebrations in North Carolina. With riders from all over the state and country coming to share in what is possibly the best birthday gift anyone could ever receive. This year Darren and some of the area locals really wanted to step it up from last year’s gathering and within a few weekends they built an entirely new hip line which everyone couldn’t stop talking about afterwards. You see the DB Gold Rush at GMG Trails was not just another Jam or birthday party, for most it was a family reunion and a chance to spend some quality time with the friends and people you care about. Darren has the kind of intoxicating personality that no matter who you are or where you’re from you are immediately drawn towards him. His positive outlook on life and uncanny ability to smile even when his chips are down is like a breathe of fresh air. He is easily one of the nicest and most genuine people I know and I’m grateful to call him friend. I just hope we get to have another 8 years of these in our future. Happy 25th Birthday D… – Todd Nichols

Photogallery: Snowden Jam
A few weeks back, our friend, Nick Steben, made a cross country move from Connecticut on the East coast all the way out to San Diego, California on the West coast just to mix things up a little bit for himself. Anyone who knows Nick, knows that he is always on the move and, in reality, this move probably isn’t that big of a surprise. Now that he’s avoiding the cold weather for a constant supply of 70’s and sunny weather, he has been busy taking advantage of the scene to spend as much time as possible as he can on his bike and shooting photos.
The other week, Ben Snowden through a jam in his backyard ramp paradise for everyone to come out and ride and have a good time. Nick was on hand for the day and ended up snapping a bunch of photos from the day for us to check out. We’ve got a brand new photogallery with 21 photos for you to take a peek at… Hit that link below to take it in!
Through The Lens: Something Different
When I tell people about what I do as a photographer I also run down the list of freelance projects that I currently work on and one of them happens to be this very column. I tell people that I write a weekly photo-based column and that the next time it comes out it will be number (whatever it happens to be next) and they always seem to be shocked by the number of weeks that I have done this. I know for a fact I am kind of shocked as well. It’s one of those things where it doesn’t really hit me until I start the next week and fill in the “check back next Wednesday for the next column” section at the bottom of every TTL and realize how many weeks it’s been. If you have followed the column from the beginning you know that one thing’s for sure and that is you never know what to expect. I have done my best to keep things interesting and keep them fresh so that people have a reason, or at least curious enough to check out what the subject matter is week after week.
