This week I spent some time catching up with an old friend and someone I respect as a BMX rider in the industry. Kelly has done it all from traveling the world to getting some big sponsors to creating brand new tricks and everything in between. He is the type of rider that has no off switch and is always motivating to ride with. With or without sponsors his love for BMX has not changed at all. Kelly is and has been down for riding since day one and regardless of any monetary gain he is still right here and still pushing himself in a positive direction. I am stoked to call Kelly a friend and wanted to give him a chance to voice his opinion on a few topics so I headed out to the West Side of Los Angeles and met up with him to catch up, talk some shit and enjoy some time with a good friend. See what’s new with Kelly and find out why he’s completely content with riding solely for the love of it.
Photogallery: Nick Steben April 2013
Nick Steben is one person who I’m completely jealous of. Some how, he manages to live his life by simply making enough money to take time off from work to go on a trip to ride, surf, shoot photos or whatever he really wants to do. Over the years, he’s traveled to a ton of places and along the way he’s shot some amazing photos. We’ve been fortunate enough to run a few photogalleries from him in the past, and we plan on doing more in the future. Here’s his latest sample of his work from trips he’s taken the past few months featuring riders like Stevie Churchill, Mike Brennan, Jeff Klugiewicz, Mark Mulville, Mark Potoczny, Brandon Begin and more! Check it!

I know you’re itching to get out and ride so let’s get to this!
Through The Lens – Creative Minds: The Creator of Radical Rick
For this weeks feature I decided to continue the Creative Minds series and instantly thought of Damian Fulton. For those of you out there that don’t know, Damian is the creator responsible for the entire Radical Rick comic strip series that was featured in BMX Plus! magazines for over a decade. For many readers out there, it was THE reason to pick up a copy of Plus! and had a pretty big following. There wasn’t a BMX rider out there that wasn’t down with Radical Rick. The series was always fresh, and Damian was putting out solid content month after month. I have a ton of respect for him and can’t believe he ran it for so long. I know all too well that dealing with deadlines on a regular basis can be a huge pain in the ass. So the fact that he made it work, regardless of his already packed schedule says a lot about his love for the work he was doing and the product he was creating. After tracking him down I caught up with him at his Southern California home and was honored to have the chance to hear about all things Radical Rick from the man himself. Obviously this feature was aimed for the old school heads out there but it’s also a bit of a history lesson for the younger generation so hopefully everyone gets a little something out of it.
Photogallery: Zach Fernandez
It’s been pretty amazing having the opportunity to have so many talented photographers sending in their photos lately. The other day I had a submission come in from California’s Zach Fernandez that I was real impressed with. Zach sent through 15 of his photos that range from indoor shots at Woodward West to street spots and even a few high end product photos. Zach definitely has spent some time shooting a lot of different setups which has allowed him to become a real well rounded photographer. You can check out what I mean in this up and comers new photogallery! Check it!
Products: Vol. 50
For the 50th edition of products, I’ve decided to change things up a bit. The roman numerals we usually do were getting a little ridiculous, so from now on we’ll just run with the numbers. Otherwise, we’re keeping this party going with 5 fresh products for you to take a closer look at. This week we’ve got the Pom Pom sprocket from Deluxe, the Freedom bars from Freed, the Scorpio fork from Wethepeople, Cult‘s new Signature snapbacks and the Flagship frame from Superstar! Let’s see what Volume 50 has to offer…
Photogallery: Queenstown, New Zealand
Words and Photos by Ted Van Orman
Queenstown, New Zealand: FULLY ALIVE! That would be the way I would describe that wonderland. Toss the Gorge Road Dirt Park into the mix, and it almost seems too good to be true. The Gorge is a work of art; and showing no lack of effort, the locals put in some SERIOUS shovel time. They were determined to have the place “Tire Trackless” for the Roast Event.
This is a gallery of images from a few sessions on the days leading up to the Roast. It was a chore to put the bike down and shoot photos because the riding vibe was so rad. With riders from all over the world at one hell of a spot, how could it not be?
Check out all 14 photos in this new photogallery!
Through The Lens: WYDK #5 featuring Andrew Lazaruk
There has always been something intriguing to me about getting some behind the scenes details on a photo. I don’t know what it is about it but I just get stoked on seeing exactly how someone shot a specific photo and get a little insight into the process. I suppose it has something to do with the fact that every photographer shoots a little differently, which in turn makes each story unique in its own way. I can remember studying photos in magazines and borderline obsessing about the way that they were shot and honestly over the years not much has changed. I still find myself getting lost in photos to this day with the same level of curiosity that I had when I first started shooting. With that said, enjoy round five of WYDK.
