Through The Lens: A Different Perspective
As a photographer I am always searching out ways to set myself apart and create content that people will be into. It’s one of the biggest challenges as a photographer and one of the hardest parts about it to be honest. Especially these days when everyone has a camera of some sort with them on a regular basis whether it be a digi-cam or an iphone and life is being documented by the minute. It’s a mix of doing what makes you happy and trying to figure out what will make viewers happy as well. That’s where this new “A different perspective” idea came from. Over the years I have interviewed tons of pro riders about anything and everything except one important topic. What is it like from their perspective to go out and shoot with a photographer? What it is that makes one person better to shoot with than others? I have always wondered about what goes on inside a riders mind before they prepare to shoot a crazy banger and put all of their trust into the photographer. I linked up with a few of my personal favorite riders at X Games and asked them to let me snap a shot of them for my $5 Kodak for a future project I was working on. Well, to be honest at the time I didn’t know what I was going to use the photos for but after some brainstorming it became obvious that the photos would be a perfect way to introduce this feature. See what Drew Bezanson, Dennis Enarson and Brian Kachinsky all had to say for the first edition of “A different perspective.”
Photogallery: Jacob Manes
I first saw Jacob Manes photos when he was submitting some damn good shots in our Through The Lens photo contests. They were so good he landed himself a 2nd place spot in our last one that we did with the very photo you see above. The other day he sent through some samples of his latest work for us to take a peek at. We were real stoked on what we were seeing so we decided it would be a good time to show you guys more of his photos. Head over to the photogallery to check out some rad photos of Clint Reynolds, Bas Keep and more from around Austin, Texas!

Through The Lens: #MCNLBC Photogallery
For this week’s feature I wanted to do something different and put together an exclusive gallery from the time I spent working on the #MCNLBC article for Soul Magazine. I went through my folder of files and ended up stumbling upon this mix of photos that seemed to work well together. Whenever you invest a decent amount of time into a project you are always going to have an overload of photos that end up sitting around for no reason other than the fact that you can only fit so many photos in a single article in a magazine. Instead of letting them disappear into the darkness of my archives I figured I would let them see the light of day and get some shine time. Sit back, grab a drink and enjoy the gallery.
Insight: Shadow Conspiracy X Vans – 10 Year Anniversary Collaboration
A few weeks back, news that The Shadow Conspiracy would be teaming up with Vans for their second collaboration project was announced. The Shadow Conspiracy are celebrating their 10 year anniversary and they figured it was a perfect time to do something special.
This time around the two brands worked together to produce two different models of shoes, a shirt and a trucker hat that is styled around the 10 year anniversary theme. Bringing together Vans style and quality with the image and style that The Shadow Conspiracy have created in their last 10 years.
With the release of the shoes exclusively on Dan’s Comp, I was fortunate enough to get a surprise package with samples of the new goods to take a closer look at. I put together a photogallery with some closer up photos to show you the details and quality of the Mid version, t-shirt and hat which I think will leave you really stoked on how things turned out.

Insight: Lake Owen Camp
Growing up, I remember getting these random brochures in the mail for Lake Owen and Woodward. I’m sure it was from some mailing list that I got on after buying something online, who knows. Either way, I remember looking at the brochures thinking how amazing those places looked and how much I wanted to go. It was kind of that BMX mecca where all the pros hung out all day and did nothing but ride and have fun. I don’t know what it was, but I never had the balls to ask my mom to let me go growing up. That’s something I’ve definitely regretted over the years because I’m sure if I had, it wouldn’t have taken me all these years to get up to Lake Owen to check the place out. This past weekend I was invited up by BMX director, BSD and Madera rider, and all around awesome dude, Jeff Dowhen to visit for a few days. I knew there was no way I was missing another summer without going to this place, so I loaded up and made the drive into the middle of the woods Wisconsin. I decided it would be rad to give you guys a little look at some of what the place has to offer. Check it out!
