Cody Anderson Interview

All photos by Travis Kincaid

Some of you may have noticed that over the course of the past few months, Hoffman Bikes have made a few new additions to their flow squad. One of those guys is Cody Anderson who we have been seeing send himself like a wild man the past two years or so. Last week he dropped a new edit to celebrate his 21st birthday and we were blown away by some of the gnarly stuff he was doing, so we figured it was due time to get ahold of him to find out just what this kid is all about! Let’s take a look at what he said!

Name: Cody Ray Anderson

Location: Dallas, Texas

Sponsors: Hoffman Bikes

Years riding: 5

What was it that first got you into BMX? Any early memories come to  mind?
My friend was getting into racing and I went one day and got on one of his GT racers. That’s when I never looked back. I just wanted to go off of stuff and go down gnarly stuff. I got my own bike, I think it was a prism orange Kink Whip and I wouldn’t take anything back. Yewwww!

Alright, Cody! How’s it going? I’d imagine you’re staying warm down in Texas?
It’s going great. The whether is mild, but it could be a whole lot warmer, which I like.

You joined the Hoffman Bikes flow team a few months back, right? How did that opportunity all come about?
Yeah, right before Texas Toast 2014! With hard work comes great opportunity.

Do you have any trips, videos or cool projects in the works with them that you can tell us about?
Not at the moment, but recently I have been traveling around with my friend Cameron in his van and just working on little projects and making our own little trips around the outskirts  of Dallas.

Around the time you joined Hoffman, you made the move to Dallas from Tulsa, Oklahoma, right? What were some of the reasons behind the move?
I’ve lived in Tulsa my whole life and it is a great place, don’t get me wrong, and it has the best spots, but there is always a time for change. So, I sold my car and quit my awesome job and just went for it.

How are you liking it? Could you see yourself moving somewhere else in the near future?
Its wonderful! I want to live in all 50 states just because I can.

Have you had the chance to travel much with BMX at all? Where are a few places you have had the chance to go?
Without BMX I would have never visited as many places as I have been. I feel really blessed for that. I haven’t been out of the states but that is a dream of mine though.

Any trips you really want to make happen sometime here soon?
Yes, everywhere. I want to see everything and ride uncapped spots. If I made it to Estonia for Simple Session that would be sick, too.

We’ve seen a handful of your videos in the past and noticed you don’t seem too scared to send yourself. Who were some of the riders that really influenced you and your style growing up?
Sean Burns
Brian Kachinsky
Mat Hoffman
Russell Wadlin

What about these days? Who are some of the guys that really get you psyched to ride?
Kareem Williams
Sean Burns
Brian Kachinsky
Mat Hoffman
Russell Wadlin
Everyone has their own style and what not but Everyone gets me psyched to ride

You had your welcome to Hoffman Bikes video drop back in October. Have you been filming for anything since? When can we expect to see some fresh footage?
Yes, I just dropped an edit on my birthday as well. That freshie freshie.

You definitely the kind of guy that isn’t scared to send it down some crazy rails. What would you say your dream spot would consist of? Have you found it yet?
Wow… my mind rambles about that crazy stuff I think about, but I couldn’t put into words on how insane this place would be and is probably going to be when I find it. When I find it I will tell you about it.

Where have you been getting most of you’re riding time in these days? Do you ever hit up the parks or trails or are you pretty much always riding street?
I live in a little college town outside of Dallas that has two college campuses and there are spots everywhere.
Yes! I love going to the skateparks here. They are so good. Boosting dirt jumps is so sick too, which I’ve actually been doing a lot lately besides riding street.

What’s one trick that you can’t do for the life of you no matter how many times you try?
A barspin

What do you think you would be getting into today if you never got into BMX?
Robbery, Gang Violence… Just kidding. I would probably find some sugar momma to take care of me.

Are you going to school or working at all? Do you have a “dream job” outside of BMX at all?
Not going to school at the moment but in the future college will happen. I’m working at Taco Bell and and it’s such a blessing because my breakfast, lunch and dinner equal Taco Bell. Designing houses would be my dream job though.

What are you usually getting into when you aren’t riding these days? Are you really good at anything outside of riding?
Losing my mind on Netflix and fishing.

What’s the best and worst part about Tulsa outside of riding?
All around just amazing place

What about the best and worst parts of Dallas outside of riding?
The girls are about as bad as it gets but other than that it is awesome.

What’s the last song you heard and movie you watched?
“If You Aint From My Hood by Project Pat and Menace II Society

Let’s say you win the lottery and find yourself with a ton of money. What’s the first time you buy?
I would buy the Versace store so all the homies would be G’d up.

Word on the street is that you have eaten a dead, dried up frog on a dare? What’s the story behind that one?
I rode to the skatepark that day and I was broke as hell, so my homie said he would give me twenty Dollars if I ate this ran over and burnt frog… So I did. #onthegrind

What’s something about yourself, other than eating frogs, that might surprise people?
I’ve been scared of birds ever since I was little. One tried to eat me at the San Diego zoo.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Riding, progressing and pushing BMX… Plus traveling the world!

How can people keep up with you these days?
I have a Instagram @imcodyanderson

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
I would like to think my father Chris Anderson for helping me through all my bull crap he had to deal with including injuries and what not. My Mother Tammy Swanson and dad Jon Swanson All my family for being really supportive. Alex Hammett and Cameron Muilenburg for putting up with me and filming. All the T-Town homies that are keeping Tulsa up and Mark Owen because he is a G.

Anything else you want to say?
