If you would have asked me who Colby Richard was a week or two ago, I probably wouldn’t have a very solid answer for you. I caught wind of Colby from a few of his friends who sent me some photos and links to videos of him. It was obvious he could ride and use a little something to bump his name out there a bit. So check out what Colby has to say, some photos, and videos of him and his friends. Don’t forget to leave him some love in the comments either.
Name: Colby Richard
Photos and videos by Andrew Dubicki
Location: Hanover PA.
Sponsors: None
Years riding: Around 6 or 7
What was it that first got you into BMX? Any early memories come to
mind at all?
My oldest brother is who got me to start riding. I still ride with him like every weekend.
You are definitely a very under-rated rider who is kind of a well kept secret. Do you try to keep to yourself, or are you just shy of the camera?
We just film some small edits from around our area so they don’t get around much. So I guess that’s what keeps me so low key.
What’s the scene like from where you are from? Is there much to ride?
We have some good things to ride but since my friends and I ride it all the time it gets real old and the cops are real big dicks and we always get fines. I’ve had about 6 or 7 fines just from riding local spots and each fine is about $200 to $300.
What is this “Gangster Biking” thing all about? I know you have made quite a few appearances in their videos?
Gangster Biking is a group of friends from Hanover that ride about everyday. We always just do our own thing and have fun. The name was a joke but it’s never changed since like 2001.
Your friends tell me that you have never had an edit solely to yourself. Have you been doing much filming lately? Do you have any plans for an edit of just you anytime soon?
We have been filming a lot lately but were trying to make another edit. I don’t have plans for my own edit but I would like to get working on one.
It’s pretty obvious you kill it on street, is that something you favor more over parks and trails or can you ride anything really?
I’d rather ride street because that’s what I grew up riding. But I can go to a skatepark and have a real good time riding that. I’ve never really been into trails but if my friends go to some I’m always down to ride them too.
Where can you usually be found riding these days?
I can usually be found riding in the Hanover square. It’s just a couple of manual pads but I always have a lot of fun riding them.
Do you and your crew travel much? Where are some of the places you have been.
If I can get off work on a friday or Saturday then we will go to like Baltimore or Towson, Maryland. But I also have been to Philly
Where are some places you would like to go that you haven’t had the chance to go to yet?
I would love to go ride Pittsburg or NYC. Next year I wanna try to go to florida for vacation so hopefully I can ride down there too.
It sounds like you are able to pick up new tricks pretty quickly. Has riding always came real natural to you?
If I’m really determined to Learn a trick I’ll sit in a parking lot untill I get it dialed in or untill I get sore.
What is one trick that no matter how many times you have tried it, you just can’t seem to do?
I could never learn barspins off ramps but I don’t have trouble with bunnyhop ones.
What is the scariest thing you have done on your bike?
I think the 8 flat 13 gap to double peg was the scariest thing I’ve ever done on my bike.
Who or what are your biggest influences on your riding? Are there any pros you have always looked up to?
Just being with friends and riding always pumps me up but as of pros I like watching Chase D and Mike Aiken the most.
Do you ever find yourself getting burned out on riding? What keeps you going when that happens?
I can ride all day just because I love being with my friends and learning bigger and better tricks.
In your eyes, what is BMX?
BMX to me is just riding your bike with your friends and having a good time.
What do you think you would be up to if you never got into BMX?
If I didn’t get into BMX I would prolly be into drugs or something stupid because a lot of people do that around here and riding just keeps me out of trouble except of all the fines.
What are you usually doing when you aren’t riding?
I work a lot at UTZ potatoe chips but I try to just chill and just stay out of trouble. I like working on my car and just keeping my bike dialed in. I don’t do to much other than that.

What kind of music is a guy like you into? List 3 favorites for us?
I like heavy screamo music. I like underoath saosin and and a day to remember. But I also like some rap.
It sounds like you go through cars pretty quickly. Why do you always keep changing it up?
Haha well I use to have a jeep my friend has a truck so we were playing in the snow and we slid on the ice and he assholed me and it was totaled. After that I had a Honda accord I picked up for $250 I drove that to school and put it in reverse at like 50mph cause Im stupid so I sold that for $200. Now I have a 1989 dodge colt gt. I’ll try to keep this car for awhile cause it has turbo and I’m always getting new parts to make it faster. Hopefully I can get a turbo eclipse motor to put in it sometime.
What is your dream car to own… the one car you would buy, and never sell?
I would love to have another dodge colt in better shape because they are so much fun and with the right mods you can make them faster than some cars that would cost a shit load of money. I would also love to have an Audi r8 too.
It sounds like you just graduated from High School, what are your
plans from here out? College? Work?
I’m still not sure this year I’m just gonna chill but next year I might go to a tech school for automotive or something like that.
In a perfect world, other than riding bikes, what would you want to be
when you grow up?
I would think it would be awesome to race cars like audi and all the other big fast name brands.
What is the Colby Richard key to unlocking girls panties?
Lol Really I haven’t found that key yet but if I find a interesting way I’ll deff let you kno.
Do you spend much time on the computer? Any favorite websites?
I don’t usually get on my computer because it’s old and slow as fuck so I usually get on my phone.

Who or what are the biggest influences on your life?
My biggest influence would be all of my friends because we always have fun and teach eachother new tricks.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Probably just working mad hours and riding my bike in my free time.
Have you ever fought a midget? Would you if the opportunity arose and he hit you first?
Haha no I’ve never done that and I wouldn’t because I’m not into fighting it’s just not my thing.
What is the craziest experience of your life?
This is hard I almost died with my friend Matt Malone driving on the wrong side of the road trying to get some girls number. Another crazy experience would be when we were out riding at like 2AM drunk and we had to run from the cops.
What makes for a good night out for you?
It would be riding until like 11 then go hit the strip in the Colt and see how many cars we can beat.
What is the best advice you have ever been given, or able to give?
Um I guess not to give up on your dreams and just go with the flow.
Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
I would like to thanks my friends Mouse, Matt Malone, Dubi, Gary, my family. and everyone
who helps me out. The local shop for gettin everything I need and hooking me up.
