Dan Figg Bike Check

I’ve said it more than once; trails riders are definitely a unique breed. In this case, we’re getting a look at Proper‘s U.K trails shredder, Dan Figg’s Trawlerman setup. The setup is definitely a real sturdy looking unit and it’s probably one of the few bike check’s you will still see with 48 spoke wheels. While we were at it, we tossed Dan some extra questions to let you get to know him a little better. Let’s check out his bike and see what he had to say!

What’s the newest part on your bike?
The Trawlerman frame

What’s the oldest part on your bike?
The Goldfinger lever

What do you usually go through the fastest?
Nothing really…… brake cables.

Is there any certain way you HAVE to have your bike setup or it all feels wrong?
Usually small bars but it’s all changed within the last 3 weeks……I’m still trying to get used to it. 48 hole wheels. I like my bike to have some weight to it.

Does your setup change much or is it a pretty consistent trails machine?
It’s never changed in the last 10 years. The bars are the first big thing.

How are things going with Proper these days? Do you have any trips or videos lined up with them?
I’m hopefully shooting some photos for Ride UK and filming a little edit for Proper this week, if the rain doesn’t get any worse.

Any other sponsor news?
Dark Industries are making custom leather seats and soft goods.

From what I’ve heard, the weather in the U.K has been pissing. Have the trails been running much? Care to tell us a little bit about Sheet trails?
They have been running most of the time. If there’s a heavy downpour we miss a few days but the trails are sandy and the drainage is pretty dialed. Generally they’re running right throughout the year.

Where have you been getting your riding time in when things are too wet?
Nowhere else. That’s the generally the only place I’ve been riding. I went to The Tunnel last week but that’s only once this year.

If you could go on a trip anywhere in the world to ride, where would you go and why?
It’d probably have to be PA for the trails I guess. Or Australia but it’s too hot down there.

What are you up to when you aren’t riding? Do you go to school or work at all?
Yeah, I’m working and playing drums. I work as a carpenter.

What’s something about yourself that might surprise people?
I have 11 toes…
I don’t really.

What’s the last song you heard, movie you watched and website you visited?
Song is “Oroborus” by Gojira, movie is The Expendables, and website……the Proper website to look at Wolfman’s baby.

(Fun Fact: Dan doesn’t have Facebook or even an email account).

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
No I hate everyone… If I was American it’d be Jesus but I’m not (laughs).
