Greg D’Amico Interview

It’s crazy to think how big BMXfu and the Niagara Street crew has blown up so much in the last few years. They are doing things right. Cory Beal hit me up about doing an interview with Greg a little while ago, and it finally got put together. Check out what Greg has to say, some real good photos by Scott Barker, and his Futu part. What was it that first got you into BMX? Any real early memories come to mind?
Some dudes down the street had ramps and I thought it looked pretty cool. I went over one day and they said if I want to ride here I had to drop in the 7ft extension, haha, and I haven’t stopped since.

You are one of the notorious members of BMXFU. Did you have any sort of weird initiation to get on that?
Not really, I’ve always just rode with all those dudes, they like to have a good time when they ride and so do I so it just fit. I like to live the BMXFU life, haha.

What’s the craziest story you have because of the FU?
We all time traveled once, that was pretty sweet. There’s so many, I cant really pin point just one haha. We’re always trying to have as much fun as we can so who knows what we’re up too, hah.

I heard you may be getting a salary through MacBeal bikes? Can you confirm or deny this?
I’ve known Cory from Macbeal bikes for while but I havent seen that check yet dude. I spent aboout 5 days in Winnipeg at Cory’s place which was sick. That city is a skate park, plus Cory’s rad and you deff always have a good with him laughing your ass off.

Have you been filming much? Will you have a part in the next BMXFU video? Have you been filming for anything else?
I’ve been filming as much as I can for FU3. I should have a part in the new video, Brad Hill has me under strict filming schedule, haha.

The scene in Niagara Falls seems to be growing by the day… Who are you usually riding with these days?
Our scene is getting bigger, I see new kids at the park on bikes every day, it’s crazy cuz they came out of no where. I ride mostly with Shaun Swain, Brad Hill, Andrew White, Lee Dennis, Scott Barker, and my skater buddy from FUTU Curtis Whitaker.

Where can you usually be found riding these days?
It really depends on the day. You can find me riding Port Colborne street with Swain or at Niagara Falls park. I’m kinda over St. Catharines park to be honest, but I would rather just ride street anyway, so probably just messing around jibbing

Do you have any trips in the works? Anywhere you want to go?
Yeah, I hope I can get back California this winter. I’d like to go to NORA cup too, never been to Vegas and the NORA cup just seems like it would be sick. The place I would really like to go to would have to be Barcelona, Spain or Simple Session. Just seems like some rad places to be.

Where is your favorite place you have had the chance to ride?
Probably last winter in San Diego, because the weather is perfect and there’s endless places to ride. Plus when you have a tour guide like Lil Tammy and Lashaan Kobza showing you around they bring you to what exactly what you’re looking for. Thanks dudes, Pirate Life.

Who or what are your biggest influences on your riding?
I would have to say Jim Cielincki, Jamie Bestwick, Randy Taylor, Sean Sexton. Corey Bohan and BMXFU, cuz all these dudes have brought some much to table in BMX.

What do you think you would be up to if you never got into BMX?
To be honest I would probably be done with my plumbing apprenticeship and making that paper, or jail.

What are you usually up to when you aren’t riding?
When I’m not riding I’m probably at the beach or chillin’ with the homies .

I know you got that lip tattoo a while back. Tell us that story, and have you got any more since then?
The lip tatt wasn’t planed at all. Rock and Roll Road Fools was at X-Wheelz and I knew Catfish probably had his tattoo gun, so I asked if he would tattoo BMXFU in my lip and if you know catfish he’s not going to say no to a lip tatt hah. Thanks again, Zack.

Do you spend much time on the computer? Any favorite sites?
Not really. I just check , Facebook and Myspace from time to time.

Approximately how many girls have you manhandled? Do you have any good stories?
I pretty much manhandle every girl I can, it’s good cuz I don’t put much work into it and they just keep coming.

Who on the FU has banged the nastiest chick? How gross was it?
I would have to Greg Henry takes the cake on that one, and there’s a tape to prove it. Haha, sorry G.

Have you ever been in a fight or arrested? Care to explain…?
Never been arrested, but I’ve been in a few fights. Always over skinny jeans, haha. One night after the bar Greg H, Curtis W, and I were going to get some food and we ran into this one dude standing alone and he just started taking shit. So us being wasted lipped back just like anyone would, haha. So Curt goes into Subway, and Greg and I run over to 7/11. When we get outside the dude that was standing alone somehow had 6 other guys with him. We walk to the Subway to tell Curt that shit’s about to go down and in the door way the dude just punches Greg in the face, then all those dudes jumped in. So I just threw my hands out to take as many poeple away from Greg as I could. Busted this one kids nose, and Greg still had two dudes on him so Curt just started throwing people off me and Greg. That’s about the time the cops showed up and were bitching at us for some stupid reason, but they let us all go so we made out pretty good ha. Don’t fuck with BMXFU.

How do you feel about Capone? Am I the only one who really can’t stand that dude?
I’m going to skip this question.

Who gets the gayest out of all you BMXFU dudes? Your Twitter account is pretty interesting. (@BMXFU).
Haha the Twitter stuff, thats just shit people post when they’re drunk, but I would have to say Brad Hill definitely says the most gay shit out of all of us.

In your lifetime, how many dollars have you spent on strippers, hookers, drugs, and alcohol?
A lot, haha. No, probably same as any other dude that rides bikes. Still a lot.

What makes for a good night out for you?
A pre-game at the FU house, thanks Cliff,. Then some shenanigans. We ride our bikes to the bar sometimes and its a Wednesday night usually, cuz that’s when the drinks are only a dollar so you’re getting shitty. The bar is always full of girls and thats key for a good night out. Know what I mean?

Do you work or go to school at all?
Right now I’m just riding and doing the odd job cuz I’m waitting to write my plumping union test so can finish my apprenticeship.

Where do you see yourself in a few years?
Finish my apprenticeship, but to be honest I’m not to sure. I just hope I’m still riding really.

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
Mom and Dad for putting up with my shit. Chris Orbell, if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t have a dialed bike. All the BMXFU dudes, Cory Beal @ REPSET, Lil Tammy, Lashaan Kobza, Cory Kuhling, Catfish.
