Greg Henry Interview

There’s no doubt that if you actually pay attention to BMX, you are aware of who Greg Henry is. He’s one of the original BMXfu executives and Wethepeople‘s Canadian connections. I happened to bump into him at Interbike and had the chance to talk with him for a while. The guy is definitely the real deal on the good people scale. I figured he was more than overdue for an interview here on The Union plus with the Guy Stuff video coming out soon, it was a good time. I shot him a few questions so let’s see what he had to say. Oh, and shout out to Brad Hill for all of the photos!

Name: Gregory Henry

Location: Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Sponsors: DUB, BMXfu, Wethepeople, Eclat, Almond Footwear, OG, Ten Pack

Years riding: 12

What was it that first got you into BMX? Any early memories come to mind at all?
Seeing older guys around town like Lee Dennis and Chris Orbell when I was a dirty kid cruisin’ around on a BMX that I got for Christmas.

How are things going with Wethepeople, Almond and Eclat? Do you have anything cooking with those guys at all these days or are you just holding Canadia down for them?
Everything with WTP, Almond and Eclat is dope! We were supposed to go on a WTP trip to NYC next month but Chester just broke his foot so that might get pushed back. I got to meet they boys that run Almond at Interbike. They are best kind so hopefully I’ll be able do a lot more with them in the future.

What about Tenpack? Do you have anything going on with them? How did that road trip treat you this summer?
I can never say enough good words about Ten Pack. They give more back to the BMX community than any other distro I’ve ever heard of. Seriously great humans and Tenpack trips are unreal!

What’s up with the BMXfu crew lately? I feel like the mass amounts of edits have slowed… Is it the calm before the storm known as Guy Stuff?
The crew is still tight as ever. In the past couple years a lot of the crew has got hooked up so everyone kind of has separate projects and trips. Even with that aside, I think guy stuff is the best BMXfu full length yet and I hope everyone is as stoked on it as I am. This is absolutely the calm before the storm.

Speaking of Guy Stuff, the world premiere is going down on November 5th, right? Are you guys throwing a huge party or what’s going on?
Thats right. If anyone is within 1000000 KM’s (621371.192 miles.. damn, Canadians!) of Niagara Falls, Ontario, this is a must go. Black tie event and a cover of $4.20 at the doors. We’re getting drunk and high.

Are you going to have a full section in the video? What can people expect out of your section?
Chris Zep from AOTC fame and I have a split section. My clips where filmed in literally 3 days of riding so don’t expect any “left over” edit from me, haha. I got hurt bad a couple times this year so that kind of fucked me.

Do you have any fresh edits that will be dropping any time soon? I feel like it has been a while.

Like I said I’ve had a few bad injuries this year. Still bouncing back from one now. I think my FU4 section will go online soon. Also, Charlie plans to release the FU5 sections as web edits for the sponsors of the riders.

It’s already starting to get cold here in Minnesota… so I can only imagine you guys will be getting it in Canada soon. Do you have any plans of getting out of there for a bit this winter?
Yeah, I need to get the fuck out, haha. I’ll hopefully get some warm weather type trips to break up the winter.

How did Vegas treat you this year? Was I right about the 3-day max before you want to die rule?
I showed up cocky but Vegas kicked my ass.

Lets say some multimillionaire was really digging the FU and decided to send you and 5 members of the crew anywhere in the world for a week to film. What 5 members do you pick, where do you go and why?
I’d probably just take the money and buy cocaine and hookers for the full crew. We roll deep so it’s hard to narrow it down to 5.

Approximately how many grinds could you do in one power hour on a two-foot tall, 8-foot long flat rail?
Fuck. I don’t know. I could probably do at least 2 grinds a minute so, like, 120 grinds?

Let’s say you get challenged by some little skatepark rat to a game of B-I-K-E. What’s the one trick you are for sure getting a letter on?
Probably a no hander

I’m fairly certain you are one of very few 4-peggers that still runs brakes. What’s that all about? Are brakes coming back for 2012? When are the front brakes coming back?
I’ve had the same set up for a real long time. I think it’s coming back though. I know Charlie Crum and Lee Den are on the 4 peg straight cable program. Brakes are the new brakeless.

What do you think you would be getting into these days if you never found BMX? Do you think girls would be as easy?
Um, I have no idea. I’d probably be in a ditch somewhere. Honestly, nothing makes getting girls easier then being on FU.

What are you usually up to when you aren’t riding these days?
I cook a lot

Do you work at all or are you just living off BMXfu profit sharing?
I was a chef at a winery up until recently. It’s actually difficult to keep a serious job now that I have opportunities to travel so often. I’m just working odd construction jobs with my girlfriends dad at the moment to pay the bills and live the BMX life.

What’s the dirtiest place you have ever hooked up with a girl at? I’ll count the entire city of Las Vegas.
Toronto, me, Krupa, one room and two girls. It was weird because the girls were deece but they lived in a fucking shit hole. I’m not gonna get into too much detail.

You have some pretty solid gauging going on in those ears of yours. What size are you at? Any tattoos?
I lost an earring a week ago so now they are all shrunk up small. I have my full chest and ribs tattooed but my favourites are my BMXfu jet ski and blue lobster by Lee Dennis on my left leg.

Greg pissed he lost his earring.

What’s the choice drink of one Greg Henry? Approximately how many of those does it take to get you on the dance floor? How many more does it take to take home a fat chick?
I’ll drink anything. and it doesnt take much to get me on a dance floor. That’s for sure.

What makes for a good night out for you? Are you raging or chilling?
I can do both. Down with chillen but I do get a little wild when I’m on a dance floor.

What’s the sketchiest situation you have been placed in in your life?
Winnipeg white ledges…….

Are you really good at anything other than grinding on a bike? What’s something about yourself that might surprise people?
I can answer both these questions in one. I wouldn’t really say I’m good at ramp riding but I can hang. I usually ride the skate park after work and all winter we are stuck riding indoors so I always mix it up and ride some ramps.

What’s the last song you heard, movie you watched and website you visited?
Trap Boyz by OJ Da Juice Man, Paul, youjizz.com

Gonna need more than a broom to clean up the mess left behind after the Guy Stuff premiere…

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I don’t plan that far.

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
BMXfu, Jess, family, everyone at Wemakethings. Thanks!
