Over the last few months, I spent some time compiling weekly lists of the top BMX videos to drop for Network A. It was a good opportunity for me to go back and review all of the videos that dropped each week.
I’m not sure if you are aware of it, but the Daily Section gets updated a few times a day which generally ends up being around 30 new posts with the latest videos, products, news and what not every single day. In a given week, there are around 210 new posts (probably a lot more than that actually) which means one thing… A lot of really good videos get missed since I highly doubt you are spending as much time as I am going through all the new stuff popping up. I hope not at least.
Since the job with Network A ended (two months longer than originally planned), I’ve been thinking it would be cool to do a recap of my own each week to give some shine to the videos that turned out awesome and were quickly buried under all the new posts. So, here we have it. The first round of Hangover, a look back at the wild party we call a week. This should become the new Sunday tradition, so let’s give this a go!
Up top we have Matt Roe’s welcome to Fly Bikes edit that I was so stoked on. Lee Turner did a great job of putting this whole thing together and Matt came through with some really stylish riding. This one was definitely a treat. Incase you missed the news, Matt is riding Fly parts, but still rides Mutiny as a frame sponsor. This one was my personal favorite from the week.
I’ve said it more than once… It’s not even fair how talented Christian Rigal is. Not only has he been one of my favorite filmers and editors these days, he’s insanely talented on a bike. This past year he had been getting the bump up to the pro team from his sponsors like United. It was really no shock that he was moved up on the Demolition team as well. This welcome edit to make the Demolition deal was a little over due, but well worth the wait. So good.
Kyle Baldock has spent the last two years or so blowing up. It’s no surprise due to how much talent he has. Hell, I still wonder what they are feeding people in Australia that has lead to so many talented riders coming from that country. Recently, Unit Riders got Kyle into the Disney Australia headquarters where they gave them access to a $250,000 Phantom camera to film with. Needless to say, the production value mixed with some bangers turned out to be a hell of an edit that you don’t want to miss. If you think this is good, just wait for Kyle’s new Total BMX edit to drop. I have a feeling it will be coming in the next few days and be insane.
I can’t recall a single edit that has come from Dan Lacey that has ever disappointed me. When I found out he was on Monster, I started to anticipate a welcome edit. This past week, the welcome edit dropped and all I can really say is that I was very impressed with the out come. Given, they had Will Stroud behind the filming and editing and tossed in a cameo from Dakota Roche, this whole video was on point. It’s good to see Dan back on the bike after a string of injuries that left him pretty low key until the last month or two. All I know is this was a definite must see and I can’t wait for his next one.
When rumors that Johnny Devlin was finally coming back to put more work back into BMX, I got really excited. There’s something about Johnny’s riding that just gets me hyped. He’s a real unique individual and has done some really cool things in the past few years, but damn is it good to have him back. This past week, The Shadow Conspiracy dropped these “scraps” from Johnny’s first trip back with the team to Atlanta and and Orlando. There are even a few Simone Barraco clips mixed in there too. Needless to say, it’s worth checking out and hopefully more footage of Johnny surfaces soon.
The past two years or so have been reaaaaaally good to Nigel Sylvester. The guy has definitely been put in a position to represent BMX and he’s done a good job. I won’t lie when I say I’ve seen more than enough videos where he’s asked to talk about his background and how he grew up and I was getting a little burned out on it. I just knew the people behind the videos really didn’t want to focus on the riding aspect versus the lifestyle aspect of BMX. Lately, thanks to his show on Network A, we have been lucky enough to get the best of both sides of Nigel. In this new G-Shock video, we get a full dose of Nigel’s riding from a recent trip to the Dominican Republic and it definitely shows exactly why he’s where he is today. This is one you won’t want to skip over.
Whenever I open my email’s inbox and I see an email from Rob Palmer, I get stoked. Why? Because I know he’s got a fresh Hideout edit to show me. Generally, these videos are filmed really well and put together really well. They also feature guys like Mikey Palmer and Louis Morris who can produce some real good riding on a bike. This new video popped up this past week and I was more than pleased with what I was watching.
Have you noticed how insanely stacked the Premium team is? Just reading the description of a video from them garuntee’s a good video. This past week they dropped a video featuring Chad Kerley, Connor Lodes and Sean Ricany from a recent trip to Denver they took. These three guys alone have been producing some of the wildest riding over the last year or two so you don’t need me to tell you they got shit done on this trip. I was a little bummed to see Josh Harrington and Dan Foley were both stuck behind the lens and editing due to injuries. If all five of these guys were riding, it probably would have caused my computer to crash from goodness. Regardless… Awesome video.
Rob Darden is one of those riders who I have an insane amount of respect for. He’s a full-time dad and a full-time beast on a bike. After a not so pleasant last year due to injuries and sponsor deals not working out, it’s good to see him coming back with some power. This new Arnette video features a real good mix of what Rob is real good at. I’m really stoked on how clean this turned out. There isn’t the most wild riding, but damn does he got the best one handed tables in the business. I know you will enjoy this one.
I’m a HUGE sucker for a really well filmed and edited trails video. I’ve got A LOT of love for trails and it seems like there has been more and more videos popping up featuring trails lately. When I came across this video featuring Tyler Frederick and Seth Rand that Dustin Lane, Chris Zidek and Marshall Burnette put together I was just drooling. Not only do the trails look great, the riding is really clean and the filming and editing was so well done. I’m sure revisiting this one is more than worth it.
Paul Barnum is one of those names that doesn’t pop up nearly enough. This video that Shane McLellan put together popped up the other day and it was more than impressive. The crazy part, it was all filmed in about an hour at the Seaside skatepark in Bridgeport, Connecticut. If I can make a request to have more footage of Paul to start surfacing, that would be great. Keep an eye out for this dude for sure.
Tom “Ohio” Perry is one of those really good dudes on and off the bike. Not only is he really artistic and carries a real positive attitude, but his riding stands out from what’s popping up online everyday. Tom’s pegless riding is always more than a treat to watch so when I saw this new one for FIT pop up in the feed, I knew it was going to be a good one without even having the chance to hit play. Enjoy it!
All right, so that wraps up my picks for edits that dropped over the week that deserve to get a little spotlight action. I’m going to try and start doing this every week, so check back next Sunday for a look at what popped up over the week. Until then, hit up the other Originals we have been dropping lately or hit the Daily Section for a look at all the latest edits, products, news and more! Thanks for checking it out and let me know what you think in the comments!
