How To Get Sponsored For BMX

December 12, 2017

Brant Moore goes through the ins and outs of how to get sponsored for BMX… With a few tips on how not to get sponsored.

There’s a ton of people out there that ride BMX that want to get sponsored. Some people out there just want free product, others want the perks like traveling and fun, and some of the people out there demand that the world owes them everything because their talent on a bike. This week Brant Moore decided to sit down and talk a little bit about how to get sponsored for BMX, while explaining the responsibilities that are expected as a sponsored rider from brands. Brant takes a pretty blunt approach to this one explaining why your “sponsor me” video is going to be a flop, what it actually means to be sponsored and what your responsibilities are, the different levels from flow to AM, Pro and more, why you shouldn’t DM brands on Instagram asking to get sponsored and more.

Now, this isn’t meant to completely crush your dreams, but it’s more or less to open your eyes to the reality of what it takes to become sponsored for BMX. If you’re willing to put in the work and the time, it’s always possible to get sponsored.

One thing Brant kind of touched on, but wasn’t super clear on is that it’s not all about how well of a rider you are. You could have a super deep bag of tricks, ride better than some pros and crush it when you ride a contest, that doesn’t entitle you to being sponsored. If you look around at all the different Pro teams out there, you will see that a lot of brands have teams that are pretty closely inline with their styles of riding, personalities and more. That’s because when a team goes on a road trip, they want a group of people that get along well and actually are friends. Nobody wants to be stuck in a van with somebody that sucks to be around for a week. So keep that in mind, too. Being a good person that is smart and a lot of fun to be around can be just as beneficial as being a really talented rider.

So, take a peek, get your dreams crushed, re-evaluate and then figure out your next steps… We would suggest just having fun on your bike and going on a trip with some friends!
