Insight: Cult – 2014 Completes

There’s no denying that there’s been some amazing complete bikes that are coming through for 2014 so far. One brand in particular we were wondering what was cooking for the new year was Cult. We figured with Robbie Morales, Neal Wood, Adam Roye and crew all working together, they were bound to have some amazing bikes coming through.
I hit up Robbie to find out just what they had the other day and he came back with this! Check out what he had to say along with this exclusive flip book above giving you a full look at the entire range of bikes! Let’s find out what Cult has coming soon!

Alright, for this Insight we’re going to take a closer look at the 2014 completes from you guys. It looks like this year you guys have expanded your line a little bit. How many bikes are you guys offering this year?
10 models plus THE SIMPSONS collab.

I can’t imagine how long it takes for you guys to get all these bikes designed and spec’d up. How long did it take for you guys to get these bikes all dialed in from original concept ideas to having the bikes turn up in the club house?
This is our most thought out line yet, all in all it took about a year and a half to dial in.

Who all had input on the design for these bikes? I’d imagine Neal Wood was putting in some heavy hours?
Definitely Neal on spec and design, he made sure that was dialed. Colors and graphics was a combo of Adam L. Roye, Javee and Myself.

You guys have a good range of bikes with a lot of emphasis on the entry level and younger guys. Let’s talk about these 12″, 16″ and 18″ Juvenile bikes. You started offering these a few years back and we’ve definitely seen a ton of kids riding the bikes. How important is it that BMX starts offering something to the younger crowd these days?
We finally have cool parents who rode at one time or understand BMX and how it can be awesome for kids. With that being said we needed to design specifically for younger riders, so the bike can be fun and easy to ride. I know we have achieved that, look at the progression of young riders like Max Vu, Bryce Tryon, Tucker and Andrew Casarez. It’s amazing what they are doing so young.

Care to talk about some of the features of these bikes that make them stand out from the knock off Wal-Mart bikes?
Dialed specs and construction. 6061 T-6 Aluminium, sealed hubs, mini Dehart grips, etc. You can’t find that at Wal-mart.

What kind of a price tag come with these little guys? I’d imagine it’s important to make it affordable for the parents?
$349 is a very affordable price for the quality on the JUVENILE line.

Next are the Gateway completes which are your entry level to mid level bikes, right? What are some of the main features somebody will find on these bikes?
My main focus on the GATEWAY line was the wheels, tires, frame and bars. Making sure the wheels are sealed, DeHart tires, chromoly main frame and 8.75″ rise bars. These things keep the feel and quality of the bike dialed and at the right price.

The next level up is the Control bikes that you are offering. Based on what I’m seeing, these looks to be based off a few team riders bikes, like Alex Kennedy’s bike with the gum tires and everything. Was that kind of the goal for this project?
Definitely. All of the bikes have a similar look to what the team uses like the murdered out GATEWAY or the black and gum Control. We want riders to be able to rock up and look right on these bikes.

I noticed the price isn’t bad at all for these higher end bikes. What were some of the most difficult hurdles you guys had to jump to make sure people were getting the most out of these bikes for the money?
A constant desire to keep progressing the line and balancing the price issue along the way. It basically never ends, you’re constantly trying to make better, more affordable bikes. It’s a tough game right now, but we are bringing it with this line.

Finally, Cult collaborated with the Simpsons for some limited edition bikes this year. Care to share a little bit about who they are and why you guys decided to do the collaboration?
We were approached by their people at the Agenda Tradeshow and were really psyched to work with them as Adam L. Roye is a huge Simpsons fan. We have a ton of cool stuff lined up and can’t wait to roll everything out.

What bike did you choose to work with when it came to designing a bike around the project?
We started with the DUFFMAN cruiser a dialed ride for getting to the bar and jumping some curb cuts on the way.

Will they be available when the rest of the bikes drop, or is that coming later in the year?
The DUFFMAN first with the whole line and the Bar bike is next on deck.

You can find out more about The Simpsons collaboration bikes by hitting up Defgrip

When will the bikes be hitting shops? Will these be available worldwide?
End of September.

I know you started offering special warranties on some of the after market things you produce. Do these come with any sort of deal like that?
We always help the rider regardless of a stock or aftermarket product.

If you had to pick a favorite bike out of the 2014 line, which would you pick and why?
I’d pick the 12 inch Juvenile in Orange. It looks so cool.

Let’s say a shop or a distributor would like to get their hands on these bikes. Who should they get in touch with?
You can get these bikes by hitting up Tip Plus or Animal Bikes

Let’s say somebody has some questions about the bikes that we didn’t cover. Who should they hit up?
INFO@CULTCREW.COM

With Interbike right around the corner, I know you guys have a bunch of new stuff ready to drop. Care to drop a few hints as to what to expect?
It is gonna be wild, all the new completes, new Alex Kennedy freecoaster, grips and frame color way. We have new BUTTER colors, new softgoods, the Salvation V2 stem, DEHART 2.4 tire, new 8.5″ rise HAWK bar, new 8.75″ Trey Jones bar, Tri-pod DAK and DEHART seats and more.

What’s next for the team? Do you guys have any trips or anything planned for the rest of the year?
We have a team trip in November. Details will be out soon.

How’s that new DVD shaping up with the AM’s? Any idea when you think that will wrap up?
Really excited about “$MALL TALK”! It’s coming together awesome and will be out soon.
