If you follow Aaron Ross on Twitter or Instagram, there’s a good chance you caught a glimpse of one of his two new signature shoes; the Scout and Marana Vulc. If you have been riding BMX for a while, there’s a good chance that you pretty much rock the same shoes whether it’s riding, chilling or just out around town. A little over a year ago we started seeing a more comfortable style of shoe popping up that is light weight and more ideal for wearing when you aren’t riding. A perfect example of this in the Scout from Etnies. For 2015, Etnies and Aaron decided it would be a good idea to do a more traditional BMX shoe to go along side one of these Scout shoes. We we’re really digging the look of these, so we decided to pick up a pair to get a closer look! If you’re looking for some new shoes to wear when you aren’t riding, these might just be what you are trying to get on your feet. Let’s take a closer look!
Let’s talk about just what makes this shoe what it is. The Scout is made with a breathable mesh upper with a synthetic leather TPU welded Rap bar that wraps from the side around the back of the heal with a elastic band to help with slipping the shoes on. The inside is fully lined and has an STI Foam Lite Level 1 footbed for comfort. The midsole is made from exposed STI Evolution foam with rubber pods to help with grip and wear from walking on rough surfaces. There is a small Etnies logo on the tongue and another on the side near the heal on the outer side. These shoes come with round black laces to match as well.
The majority of the shoe is made from a breathable mesh material that keeps the weight down and increases comfort with plenty of air flow to keep your feet from over heating.
There is a small Etnies tag on the tongue and another logo along the side. They’ve kept the branding minimal for a clean look.
The inside of the shoe is fully lined and features an STI Foam Lite Level 1 footbed with a custom “ROSS FOR BOSS” logo… Imagine if Aaron was president? That would be wild.
The midsole of the shoe is mostly exposed STI Evolution Foam that helps keep these shoes so light and comfortable, but there is also rubber pods to help with grip and to help reduce wear on the foam. Due to the sole being mostly foam and the mesh body, these shoes are very flexible and lightweight.
Overall, the Aaron Ross Scout shoe turned out real good. We’re digging the colors and how comfortable they are. These are definitely ideal for chilling and walking around. Don’t ride in these because your pedals will tear up the midsole real quick and they don’t offer much in the form of protection against impacts or side support and padding. Otherwise, outside of that they should hold up real well for every day wear.
The Aaron Ross Scout shoe is available now in sizes of 6.5 – 14 with a price tag of $59.99 – $64.99 in the Etnies Webstore. These shoes are also available through all shops and mail-orders that carry Etnies worldwide now as well for around the same price!. You can also find these shoes on Amazon.
