Insight: Savakas Fall 2011 Line

Since I’ve become familiar with the Savakas brand last year, they have kept me in the loop with some of their projects that were in the works. When they mentioned that the new Savakas line was ready, I figured it would be a good time to ask some questions about what’s available for this new batch. Let’s take a look at what they’ve got for you to try on…

For this Insight, we’re taking a closer look at the new line for Savakas. Let’s start from the beginning. When did you initially start working on the line?
Its hard to say, I’m constantly working on Savakas, so it was already underway during the last collection in some respects.

Once you started getting your designs lined up and the initial goal of the line figured out, what’s next? Picking materials? Finding somebody to make it? What are some of the steps involved with getting a new line ready?
When your knee deep in it yourself, I think its hard to distinguish between a starting point and goal, and the things that occur during the process. Obviously, I have an idea of where I want to go with a line/range, both product wise, and with regards to overall aesthetic. However, these are kind of just natural decisions. Other things seem to just fall into place if you’re consistently aware and working.

Tom Blyth signature shirt

It looks like you are starting to make moves into other clothing items beyond t-shirts and sweatshirts. What are some of the newer items you have added to the line up for this round?
We introduced button up shirts, jackets and a Beanie previously, so we have just developed on that, with new colour-ways in the Plaid shirts, the introduction of the Chino’s as well. We have also varied the actual T-shirts, as well as giving options of print design, we now offer options of material etc.

From the preview photos I saw, it looks like you are using some real quality materials. What are you going with for your t-shirts these days? Anything new you haven’t worked with prior to this?
Yes, the Bios range, constructed from a blend of Organic cotton, recycled polyester and Rayon

I know you have always worked with a lot of different artists for your designs. Who all had part in this line?
Yes, it’s amazing to have so many talented people getting involved.
This range includes work by French, who also did Tom’s Signature frame graphics for FBM, Yuzuru…An illustrator from Japan who works with various musicians/Bands, a little for Vans maybe as well. Ale from Italy, who has a slightly surreal take on illustration etc, which is something I have always had a love for, a local artist, Jonathan Saffari, and my self. There are several others getting involved for various shirts to follow these, its continuous.

What are some of the features of the items that you are psyched on?
Overall, I’m just really happy that both the quality and aesthetic are becoming the Savakas I initially envisioned, and will continue to develop upon.

The new Savakas X DIG t-shirt.

Out of all of the items, which is your personal favorite?
The new Bios T’s, without a shadow of a doubt.
However, there’s something I’m in the process of which I’m happier about than anything. Its based on a personal experience I had, I sketched it out, and a certain talented illustrator put his take on it, then a certain group of sonic pioneers joined forces…Time will tell on that one though…

When will the line be available?
Right Now.

Have you begun working on the next line? Any hints at what you have cooking?
I have ideas to probably take me to 2020 spring summer haha! My brain is exploding with ideas, Winter/Fall 2020 might be pushing’ it though. Its putting the ideas into reality that takes a little more time!
No I don’t have any hints though.

Anything else you want to say?
Yes, Thanks to all concerned.
