Insight: Shadow Conspiracy – Valor Tire

There has been a lot of talk about tires lately. I don’t know what has lead to it, but it has, for the most part, been a good thing. Over the years, tires have changed quite a bit thanks to trends, riding styles and the use of different materials that stepped away from the traditional tires we saw for years. After 4 years, The Shadow Conspiracy decided it was time to take their popular Undertaker tire to the drawing board and give it a modern revamp. After a lot of research, design and testing… The Valor tire was released.

With the way BMX has changed and evolved over the years, tires have always been one of those things that have been constantly evolving with the way the sport has been going. With street becoming more and more popular, the need for a slimmer and more aggressive tire pattern has been slowly becoming less and less desirable by riders.

That’s why when the crew down in Florida at Shadow decided it was time to give the Undertaker a revamp, they took all of the features riders are looking for these days and found a way to make a tire that would be able to handle being dragged through hell and back from the heavy street sessions that are going down.

The Valor tire is made with an extremely sticky and durable rubber compound with a smooth center tread pattern to help reduce rolling resistance and allow for a smoother ride when cruising down the streets. The side tread features a pattern that gets more aggressive the further towards the outside you go, which helps give you more traction while taking tight turns to help reduce the chance of you sliding out. The sidewalls are thicker for higher pressure and to help prevent premature wear from grinding.

Size has been a big thing lately, with more and more riders stretching the limits of their forks and seat and chain stays, it’s definitely more than just for looks. The Valor is available in 20 x 2.40″ which not only gives you more surface area for traction, but helps to cushion heavy drops and rough landing along with give you a little more pop in your hop. The inflated width is 2.44″ (62mm) and the inflated diameter of these tires are 20.8″ (528mm). The Valor tire has a 110 Max PSI as well.

So if you’re in the market for some new tires and you don’t really know what you are looking for, these might just be what you are looking for. These tires are ideal for heavy street use, but don’t let that stop you from riding skateparks with these either.

The Valor tire is available now in 20 x 2.40″ with colors of all black or black with white walls and a weight of 29.8 oz. If you aren’t a fan of the massive tires, hold out for a little longer because the 20 x 2.20″ version is in the works as well. You can pick the Valor tire up for $29.99 on Dan’s Comp or you can have your local shop hit up Sparky’s Distribution to get you some ordered up today!
