The other week, a friend of ours had hit us up asking if we had heard about a new sunglass company called Sikk Shades that was just getting its wheels turning. We hadn’t heard about the company, but when we heard it was owned by Eddie Bauer’s grandson, Eddie Bauer Jr., we knew that we were in for something sweet. It turns out Eddie is a big BMX fan and is working on getting a program going that will include a few team riders that you will be hearing about in the near future. We were fortunate enough to get a few samples of one of their first sunglasses, the Huckleberry, to try out and we figured it would be a good idea to put something together to give you guys a closer look. If you’re sick of the sun getting in your eyes, check this out.
The Huckleberry is a signature pair of sunglasses for motocross rider Mike Alessi, and we know a bunch of you have probably heard of that guy before. These glasses are 100% hand made in Italy out of Max Velocity TR90 frames with a non-slip nose cradle to help keep the glasses from slipping or feeling uncomfortable on your nose. The lenses are Z80 Certified (by the American National Standards Institute) with Flash Electric lens technology that are similar to high definition sunglasses that black out short wave blue light, which is what is damaging to your eyes.
The glasses are pretty clean and simple with a small Sikk Shades emblem on the sides and small print on the inside of the frames.
The glasses have a non-slip rubber cradle that keeps the glasses in place and help with keeping your nose from hurting from hard plastic pushing on it.
“Sikk Shades uses Flash Electric™ Lens Technology for its sports sunglasses. Flash Electric™ lenses basically act as filters that block more bad (short wave) light and allow more good (long wave) light to come in, cutting glare as well as Polarized, but without all the prism effects, distance skews, and distortions experienced with some Polarized lenses. Other lenses, including many Polarized, can block too much of the good light necessary for proper vision, tricking the eyes, resulting in dilated pupils. Having bigger pupils means that more harmful radiation can enter your eyes.”
The Huckleberry sunglasses come in three styles; crystal clear with red iridium lenses, gloss black with black smoke lenses and gloss blue with blue iridium lenses. There is a Crisp white version with purple iridium lenses that will be available soon as well.
The Huckleberry Crystal Clear and Gloss black with blue iridium lenses are available for $119.99 direct from the Sikk Shades Webstore.
The Gloss black with black smoke lenses are available for $99.99 direct from the Sikk Shades Webstore as well.
Like we said, this is just the start for Sikk Shades in BMX, so expect to see plenty more from these guys in the near future. You can find out more about Sikk Shades and their products by visiting their website — SikkShades.com
