What do you do when you break a part that is supposed to be designed to take abuse? Well, I know most of us will just be pissed, bitch, moan and swear off ever running the product again. But then there is a guy like Jon “Gremlin” Betchtold who decided that if he can’t find something he’s satisfied with, he will just make what he wants himself. After breaking what I could imagine plenty of parts because of how much of a beast he is, The Daily Grind was founded with the goal of producing products that are going to hold up to the heavy abuse that comes from riding street like riders really do it these days. One of the first products that The Daily Grind have offered was their hub guards but, recently, the crew decided to put a two year warranty on them to show just how much faith they have in them. Take a look at the video promo video they just dropped giving you a look at just what kind of abuse they put their guards through to make sure they are good enough for you, along with a look at some scraps for their new “Hard Times” DVD that is in the works. After you watch that, let’s take a closer look at just what make these guards special after the jump…
The Daily Grind offer three styles of hub guards; front, rear non-drive side and rear drive-side. These three hub guards have been designed to take heavy abuse and have been dragged through hell and back from the team to ensure that it is going to be the quality that street riders expect when they put them on their bike. Above is a look at Ryan Howard’s signature Drive Side hub guard that is CNC machined from 4140 chromoly and heat-treated for maximum strength so it doesn’t wear too quickly or bend from grinding. This guard is designed to fit most 14mm cassette hubs with 9-tooth drivers and slides over the existing hardware for an easy installation. This guard comes with The Daily Grind’s new 2-year warranty that will give you a new replacement if you crack or bend the guard over 6mm in that time period. The Drive-Side guard weighs in a 4.3 oz. and comes in black only.
The Drive Side Guard can be picked up for $32.99 on Dan’s Comp or for $36.99 through The Daily Grind Webstore. You can also have your local shop get you one ordered up by getting ahold of The Daily Grind directly.
The Infinity Guard is the 2nd hub guard that The Daily Grind offers. This guard is an updated version of their original which features a redesigned shape to fit even more 14mm rear hubs while still giving the most coverage possible to your hub and spokes. This guard is CNC machined from 4140 chromoly that is heat-treated for maximum strength. You simply slide this one over your existing non-drive side hardware and you’re good to go! The Infinity guard also comes with the 2-year warranty against cracking and bending of 6mm or more, comes in black only and weighs in at 5.7 oz.
The Infinity guard is available for $19.99 on Dan’s Comp or for $22.99 in The Daily Grind Webstore. You can also have your local shop get ahold of The Daily Grind directly to get you one ordered up today!
The third and final guard is the front guard. The Front guard is made from 4130 CNC machined chromoly that is heat-treated for maximum strength. This guard doesn’t use aluminum or plastic like a lot of guards out there because even though it’s on the front, it can take just as much buse and damage as the rear with so many grinds that require the front peg. This one is designed a little different that the rear guards, not only because it uses 4130 versus 4140, because this one is designed to replace the press-fit hardware on The Daily Grind hub guards. That’s not to say it’s specifically designed for their hub only though! They include spacers to fit the Cinema VX, Kink Boulevard, BSD Front Street, Shadow Raptor, Subrosa Posi-Trac and Primo N4FL V2 hubs for example. This guard also comes in black only with a weight of 4 oz. even. You can run these on both sides of your hub as well for those of you who grind on both sides.
The front hub guard is available for $15.99 on Dan’s Comp or for $18.99 in The Daily Grind Webstore. You can also have your local shop get ahold of The Daily Grind directly to get you one ordered up today!
Overall, running hub guards are a really good investment for anyone who is grinding because they protect your hub and spokes from damage, keeping your wheels running stronger for longer. The Daily Grind just wanted to make the best guards they could and I think it’s clear that they’ve done an amazing job of accomplishing that.
