Interbike 2012: Fly Bikes

Now we’re cooking! Let’s keep this going. Up next we’ve got a ton of new products from Fly Bikes that you will be stoked on. David was on hand to give me a closer look and explain some of these new products which helped out a ton since I might have missed a few things if I didn’t have him point it out. Let’s get into this!

Up first would be the new Shane Weston signature frame which belongs to Shane Weston. The exact specs weren’t there, but I’d imagine it’s perfect for some freecoaster madness. Either way, looking at the detail in the photos things are looking real good. David said the frame has gone into production so it should be available in about 2 months.

How good do those complete bikes look? They did a great job of making them look like custom builds.

Here’s a look at the rest of the frames from Fly. They’ve got some fresh colors coming out. I don’t think there were any major changes to the frames for this year but I might be wrong so don’t quote me on that, haha.

Here’s what got me really excited. Fly have some all new brakes coming out with a bunch of new features. First, the arms don’t have springs. All the tension is created in the spring loaded bridge cable that you can see above. To add tension you simple stretch the arms outward. The brake pads don’t use a traditional bolt on style like other arms either. these slide on the arm of the brake and can be adjusted side to side and even tilt back and forth a few degrees if needed. Ultimately this really simplifies brakes even more making them easier to work on. Really excited to see if this catches on. They did a great job with it. How David comes up with this stuff is beyond me.

Another new addition to the line would be their chain. This full link style chain has a slim design but uses thicker plates to increase its strength. It also has hollow pins.

What do you think of that stainless steel colorway?

Here’s a look at Fly’s new pegs. They’ve got a slim steel insert instead of a chromoly insert which allows to use less material. The reason for this is because the outside diameter of these are 35mm like traditional pegs. Pretty sick. They will also have replacement sleeves available for sale.

Fat seats are coming back whether you like it or not. I love it. Here’s a look at their new seats with the tripod style seat post. Looks good to me.

All right, so that wraps up the Fly booth. If you are looking for originality, this is the place to go for 2012. Really stoked on what they have to offer. I believe most of this will be available in the next 2 months or so.
