A few days before Interbike, Nuno at Mutant told me he had a few new things to show me. When Nuno says that, I just prepare for my mind to get blown because he is always cooking up some crazy and innovating products. If you’re looking at the photo above you’re probably wondering what the hell is going on, so we better get into this!
Alright, so here’s the deal… These cranks are exactly what you think you’re looking at. The cranks are split in the middle for a hybrid 2 / 3 piece design. The arms have half a spindle welded in (similar to a 2 piece crank) then in the middle there is a piece the slides onto the splines. After that, a single bolt goes in through the hollow spindle and threads into the other arm pulling it all together. This makes for a strong and unique design. Not sure on exact release date, but I really hope these happen.
The Corvo fork features a wider stance for the big tires, a solid bridge between the legs and steerer to prevent flexing and bending, butted and tapered legs, drop outs to fit pegs that are 6mm thick. All around looking like a real solid street fork.
If you look closely, these grips have offset lines that help make for a softer grip that will last longer.
The Owl hubs have been altered for this year. Instead of offering the sliding female axle, they now have a traditional female axle with the ends that stick out into the dropouts of your fork and frame so the female axle bolts aren’t sitting direct on the drop out, making it way stronger.
The new Rio (Rao?) topload stem in the ever popular OIL SLICK.
They have updated the Sin stem with a few new features and changed it to the Rio (Rao?) front load.
These two in one pegs and hub guard have been popping up for a few years and every year the design gets tweaked and improved. It hasn’t been released until now. These guys will finally be available in April / May 2014. The design covers the outside of your drop outs of your fork and frame and have two grub screw holes so you can rotate the plastic sleeve 180 degrees to improve the length of life. Really want to see these out too! I should also mention the guard will be more rounded and not have that point.
