A while back I was talking with Tom Halliwell about getting some more coverage going on in the U.K. It seems like the place is always producing some amazing riders, but the coverage is hit or miss. He recently hit me up about getting a Quicky going with Wethepeople‘s Adam Wright to find out a little more about the dude and see how things have been. So let’s check out what he had to say along with some rad photos!
Suppose we should start with the basics, name, age, years riding?
Adam Wright, 24 years old and 14 years on the bike!
You recently got hooked up with Wethepeople, how did that come about?
Yeah, it’s awesome, Paul Robinson sorted the whole thing out, I have ridden Wethepeople bikes for years and always believed in what they do in BMX, Paul ask me if I wanted a bike I couldn’t say no, its a great opportunity.
Are you enjoying it? The new stuff is looking good, what do you think of it?
Couldn’t be better, the new WTP stuff is fantastic, they really have the whole weight to strength ratio dialled in, it all feels really solid which is refreshing in a day and age where your average bike looks and feels like a scooter.
Any parts you’re particularly pleased with?
I’m currently running a Sleepless frame, the Chester Blacksmith signature, it’s pretty much exactly what I need in a frame geometry wise with a shortish backend, high stand-over and a 75 head angle, on top of all that its strong as fuck and feels great to ride.
You’ve been working at The Notion, a rider owned store in Leeds, for a while now, how are things going with that?
The shop is doing great, we have been open for about 3 years now, I have been working there full time for just under a year, its getting bigger and better week on week. It’s a slow process but its really rewarding. were just about to launch the new website but theres still loads of work to be done on that so were all really busy.
Do you have any trips or anything planned for this year?
Yes, quite a few, I’m going to try get out to Cologne at some point, I know a few people who are heading to Barcelona, it would be great to go back there again and I’m going to try and get to America too.
Do you have any edits in the works at the moment?
Yeah, I have been working on a new one with Paul for a couple of months although its been a bit of a nightmare with the bad weather and and the shop being so busy and Paul always wanting to ride first thing on a Monday morning haha, I have my sights set on the end of April for getting it finished.
Where do you spend most of your time riding? Any favourite spots?
Most of the time we just cruse around near the shop, there’s a few good spots close by so its pretty ideal, as far as favourite places to ride go the classic blue rails are good even if they feel a little rough these days, Harrogate for long summer night street beer sessions, Leeds uni is up there with the likes of Barca / Cali so I have to mention that place and Garforth skatepark for the flyout.
