Jeff Dowhen Bike Check

Jeff Dowhen is BSD, Madera and Sun Ringle’s mustache rider from Milwaukee who I’ve had the chance to road trip all over the place with the past year or so. Jeff has been on his game lately with a video part and a few other things in the works. I figured it would be a good time to take a look at his new setup and find out what he has been up to lately. Check out it!

You have been on BSD for a few months now. How are things going with them? Does Tony have any trips planned for 2011?
BSD is the best. Fun guys that are all down to ride, rage and ruckus. BSD just went on Megatour with Malouf, Creed Stark, Jersey, and Kriss on it, so you know there section will be good. As Malouf put it, if we could win, we would have won. Tony is a legit TM, nobody really gives him credit but he holds it all together real nice. Tony and I have been filming on and off for an edit, cant wait to get on that grind. BSD is sick and everyone is finding that out.

You were bumped up to the Madera pro team recently. Does Matt or Mike have anything going with you for Madera at all? It sounded like you were going south with Hinkens soon to get out of the snow for a bit?
I can’t thank Madera enough. Mike and Matt have been helping me out for what seems like forever. Mcdermott has been in the lab creating new directions in artwork that we all are on edge to see. Everyone on Madera is creative in their own way and with Hinkens and Coplon’s motivation fueling us, Madera has been progressing every day.

What about Sun Ringle? I know the trip this past summer was a huge success and under budget. When is Wells taking us back out on the road?
The trip was def ITB (in the budget). Wells always has something up his sleeve whether its the next big trip or a team meeting at Classic Slice Pizza joint. He is always working for us. Can’t thank him enough for building every wheel for me in the last 2 years too.

Has school been getting in the way of you riding at all? I’d imagine sessions at 4Seasons and the new Ray’s in Milwaukee have been keeping your pretty entertained with the snow.
School is a hassle, but its also keeping me away from getting a “real” job so I can get behind it. 4Seasons is a staple in the midwest. It has been here for 11 years and responsile for riders like Lil Jon, Jeff K, Hinkens, Brandon Hoerres, Grant C, and countless under rated shredders and legends around these parts. Seriously, I can’t thank Neal Levin enough for being not only bike friendly, but pushing us BMXers to throw jams and contests. Without that place who knows where the scene around here would have been. The new Trek owned Rays in Milwaukee is a fun time, isnt all that favorable with the “freestyle” aspect. Too many one directional paths and no transfer rules. I have nothing against them, but I’d rather give my support to a place that is owned the most “pro-bmx” skateboarder I’ve ever met, as opposed to a corporation who can survive without my money.

You had been off your bike for a bit with some knee issues. What did you do? Are you back to full-strength yet?
Last clip in my Madera edit took me out for 3 months with a torn MCL. It was the last weekend of filming for Logan Reynolds “This Is The Spot” DVD, so I did what I normally never do, I called out a trick at a spot and drove me and a filmer there. Never doing that again. I dont like planning I just like cruising.

Have you been filming much? When can we expect to see some fresh footage from you?
Should be back on that grind. It’s 50 degrees outside and I’m wearing a tshirt. Can’t wait for the snow to melt.

It looks like you have been staying sharp on your Twitter game. Why should people follow you and what’s your link?
Tweeting is soo much better than listening to lectures. Follow me if you want to have your timeline cluttered @its_jeff

What are your plans for 2011? Anything you really want to make happen?
Do something Mat Hoffman would be proud of.

You already did a Peacock in your run at the Toronto BMX Jam, I’m sure he’s proud. Anything else you want to say?
Thanks to everyone that has helped me out, and everyone I’ve rode with, took photos for me, or filmed for me. Support your local scene and be nice to the kids.
