Joe Riley Coalition Bio

Another day, another bio! This time we have Joe Riley! I’ll be totally honest, I’ve wanted to do something with Joe for a while now since he’s a shredder but seems to never be getting the coverage he deserves. I’m psyched to be able to get this bio with him for the Coalition site. Check out what he has to say, some photos and videos, then leave him some love in the comments!

Name: Joe Riley

Age: 26

Location: Murrieta, Ca

Sponsors: Staff bmx, Vans flow, Coalition, Hell on Earth, and some flow from Kink bikes as well!

Years riding: It’s been a very long time now.

Favorite Coalition product?
I like the new bars that just came out. 8 ¼ tall and 28.5 wide! Things are legit. RILEY BARS!

Favorite Coalition team member?
I think everyone on coalition kills it! We have a very legit team. Everyone throws down gnarly shit of their own type.

Whats it like having your best firend be your TM?
Having Matt as the TM is pretty cool. He’s actually a really good TM, too. He tries hard and gets people product when they need it! Total plus on that side of things. But other than that, it’s nothing really different in the sort of things as him being TM. We still call eachother to ride and hangout and get shit done like we have for the past 12 years. Keep up the good work dude!

You’re pretty much a beast when it comes to riding anything. If you had to pick one place to ride for the rest of your life, where would you want to be and why?
Damn… it’s very hard to pick just one place to ride. IF I had to choose though, I would say it would have to be the PA trails! Being out in the woods and seeing the craziest shit ever made out of dirt just kinda makes me stoked. Those dude out there are unbelievable with their art and their countless hours of hard work and dedication.

Summer is coming in hot, what are your travel plans looking like for this summer? Any big trips or anything coming up that you can tell us about?
As of right now I have nothing scheduled. I want to get back out to the east coast very soon for reasons like the above question and to also meet up with all the guys from Staff aswell. Those dudes are great and always a goodtime to be around. ( Kevin, get that flight booked!)

I feel like it has been a little while since I’ve seen some footage of you except for the mix in the Smoke and Mirrors trip. Have you been filming for anything? When can we expect to see some clips out of you?
Ya, I’ve kind of been on the DL. Lately I’ve been working really hard trying to get things squared away for myself. I just bought a new car so you can definitely expect to see some things coming soon. As for filming lately, Matt and myself have been going out a couple time a week trying to film some clips when possible. I have a couple decent things that I want to get done here very soon, so we shall see how that ends up. I definitely plan on getting something out in the near future, but it has got to be things im stoked on. No nib jib shit. So that might take a little while

What is your biggest goal when it comes to riding for 2010?
My biggest goal right now is just to continue working and riding my bike when I’m allowed. I have got some bills I have to keep paid in order to keep things a little easier for myself. Riding wise I would have to say that I just want to put out a good edit of the stuff I’ve been doing through out the year so far. Im hoping for it to be ok. We shall see how things turn out.

Some of your favorite riders you look to for inspiration?
There are quite a bit of people I look up to when it comes to riding…First, I’m going to say Matt Colisch. This dude throws down everyday. He does unbelievable shit on an everyday basis. Dude blows my mind!. Things are not as easy as they use to be when we were younger, so to see him do everything whenever he wants is a bonus.
Other people I would have to say , Mike Aitken, the dude is a die hard. Seeing him back on his bike after his incident is a miracle to me. Watching him ride never gets old. He kills it and always will.
Another dude that I like to watch ride would be Chase Hawk. Fuck… the dude can flow anything and make it look like butter. Hes a rad dude and very fun dude to watch ride
I cant forget BF!!! Hes the man! One of the biggest inspiations for sure! BF, I’m coming for them trails man!

What was the scariest moment in BMX for you?
Well, I have had a couple scary moments. Probably waking up in the hospital a couple times from knocking myself out. That shit is no fun at all. I hate hitting my head but unfortunately I hit it way too often.
I think the scariest thing was from catching bacterial meningitis. That shit is so gnarly!!!
Causes inflammation in your spinal chord and brain. Wasn’t to sure if I was going to make it out of that one, I was very lucky.

What are you usually up to when you aren’t riding? Do you work or anything like that?
When I’m not riding my bike I am working full time at a bike shop over here by my house.
It’s called IE bikes. The dude was my very first sponsor and has always helped me out with things as I was growing up. So for him to put me to work full time is an honor, especially right now in this time and age. It’s pretty hard to get a legit job in this economy.

What makes for a good night out for you?
A good night for me consists of me getting off of an 8 ½ hour day and meeting up with either Matt to go ride a little before the sun goes down or hanging out with my girl Lauren. I’m boring these days, I don’t party or get too wild anymore. I have to keep things chill and stay out of trouble.

Approximately how many women does it take to satisfy one Joe Riley?
Just one! I’ve had my girl for a year and a half now and I plan on keeping her around a lot longer. She’s great to me and I really couldn’t ask for much more.

Last movie you watched, song you heard, and website you visited?
I went to a movie last night with Lauren to see- Take Him To The Greek. That movie fucking sucked! So horrible!!!
Last song??? Hmmm im not good with the names of songs. But its was from the Notorius
Last website, my email

Where do you see yourself in a few years?
I hope to see myself still riding my bike and flowing through trails! That’s really all I want to do until I can’t pedal a bike anymore! I also see myself with a full time job and making decent money. I really hope that’s how it happens.

Anything else you want to say?
I want to say thanks to everyone that has helped me out with everything…Bob at Staff, Badders at Vans, Scott Papiro, Colisch for being a damn good TM, Aaron Burto and Jay over at Kink, and BMX UNION FOR THIS INTERVIEW. Thank you guys very much for keeping the wheels on my bike rolling! I cant thank you enough.
and all my friends! You dudes are awesome!
