Last week we got a look at the GoPro Karma which was designed to be an affordable, compact and easy to use drone that most consumers could afford. Today, DJI announced their new Mavic Pro drone that is very similar to what the Karma has to offer! The DJI Mavic Pro is another really good option if you’re considering picking up a drone to film with. Let’s take a closer look.

To start off, you will notice the DJI Mavic Pro is much smaller than their other drones that are currently available. This drone folds down to about the size of a bigger water bottle. It features folding arms (similar to the GoPro Karma) and a smaller gimbal to accommodate for the smaller size of the drone.

The Mavic Pro has a number of interesting features that really make this little guy stand out, as well. For example, the drone features DJI’s new OcuSync transmission system which gives you up to 4.3 miles of range, paired up with its battery life of up to 27 minutes (in optimal conditions). It also communicates with up to 20 satellites to make it so it not only can navigate better, but make it so it can land exactly where it took off with the quick tap of the button. If you’re worried you might run into something, lucky for you it comes with FlightAutonomy so it can detect obstacles and avoid it up 49 feet and up to 22 miles per hour in speed. Oh, and the Mavic Pro has a top speed of 40 miles per hour.

You can make things easier by having the drone set to follow you or any object of your choice, along with telling it just how to shoot the shot without the need for the person or object having a sensor, which is pretty impressive. It has three settings, Trace, Profile and Spotlight.
Trace – Follow behind or in front of your subject or circle as it moves.
Profile – Fly alongside your subject
Spotlight – Keep the camera trained on your subject while you fly almost any direction.

– Want to take a photo of yourself? It has Gesture mode that will take a photo when you make a certain movement.

– Worried about going to low? The Level Headed feature allows the camera to constantly fly at a set height above the ground, so if you’re going up hills or a decline, it will keep a steady height.

Another feature to help you focus more on flying and less on the what if’s is that DJI has included this drone with TWO of every sensor so if one fails, it will switch to the second ensuring that you can maintain everything without issue.

The camera mounted to the Mavic Pro films in full 4K up to 30 frames per second, paired with the 3-axis mechanical stabilization to give you some buttery smooth shots, so you should have some clean film to work with!

The Mavic Pro comes with a remote control that allows you to do everything from fly, target items and set up different settings you want for your flight. If you don’t want to use the remote, you can also pair the drone up with your phone over WiFi to fly as well. What’s even cooler is you can also pick up a VR headset that will allow you to see things first person from the perspective of the drone as it is happening.

The Mavic Pro is available directly from DJI’s website or through AMAZON for $999.00
