Jeff has been on it for quite a few years now and it seems like things have really taken off for him these past few months especially! A few months back, Jeff joined the Mutiny Bikes team and since then he’s been on the move crushing spots! It was announced a few weeks back that Jeff would be getting a signature frame and bars from Mutiny that’s due out next spring and between all the trips and videos, we figured it would be a good time to catch up to see what he has going on these days! Check out what he had to say!

Jeff! It has been a while! How have things been going?
It has… Everything has been going well down here. Trying to stay busy and keep the ball rolling.

You were picked up by Mutiny Bikes a little while back. How did that opportunity all come about?
Well I spent a fair amount of time riding The Bakery in Chicago this past winter, and I would always see Grant Castelluzzo and the Milwaukee crew rolling trying to beat the brutal midwest winter weather. We would always have a good ass time riding together! Well in January, decided to move back to Arizona. On my drive back out to AZ with my dad, Grant hit me up about it. I’m just driving through Colorado tripping out, haha! It’s such an honor to be a part of such an amazing brand.

It seemed like you just joined the team and started things off big with that trip to Philadelphia where you dropped some heavy hammers. Was that a good chance to get to know the guys on the team or did you already know a lot of them?
I was actually on for a couple months before Philly. Tony Malouf and I filmed the welcome edit and the news didn’t drop until the video was finished. I was actually in Philadelphia when the news actually dropped, so that was awesome. As far as Philly went, it was such a bomb trip! It was definitely an amazing opportunity to meet everyone else on the team, for the only people I had met were Grant and Walter. Two weeks is a long time to spend on the road with anyone, but we all got on well off the bat and got on a level throughout the course of the trip. All the Mutiny dudes are HAWGZ!!

Your working on a signature The Comb frame and bars from Mutiny that are due out spring next year, right? What can you tell us about the frame as far as specs and features go? Where did The Comb come from for a name?
I can’t even believe that I am saying yes to this, it’s a dream come true! The name basically came from my addiction to honey. I got really into food/nutrition a few years ago, and since then honey has always been fascinating to me. Such a versatile food with so many health benefits and uses… The name COMB got brought up and it was pretty much agreed upon by all to go that direction. There are not only many benefits for the honey comb itself, but also for the hexagon shape in general, such as efficiency and structural stability. The list goes on and on, but I really dig the theme behind the COMB range and am very honored to be able to put my name on it.

The specs on The COMB range are as follows.
Frame:
TT – 20.9″, 21.25″ and 21.5″.
HT – 74.9 degree, 4.9″ Head Tube Length.
9.1″ Standover Height
Plain Gauge Top and Elliptical Down Tube.
Drop out designed to sit flush with peg.
Investment Cast Wishbone.
Chain Stay Length – 13.2″ – 13.7″.
Clearance for 2.4″ tire.
Removable Brake Lugs.

Bars:
9.2″ rise.
3 degree upsweep.
13 degree backsweep.

I know Gaz likes to do a lot of cool projects like the Philly trip. What does he have cooking for you guys now? Any hints at trips or filming projects like that?
He does, and it’s awesome! Probably my favorite aspect of the brand is the attention to detail on projects, like the Philly one. There are a couple of ideas getting tossed about for the next big project, but nothing set in stone at the moment. I am certain that whatever gets decided upon will be awesome!

Actually, didn’t you go over to Brighton for Brighton Ain’t Ready a little while back too? How was that trip for you? Were you worried about not getting in like your last time trying to get over to the U.K?
Yes, I was granted an opportunity to be a part of that project this summer… The trip as a whole was unbelievable! The Seventies crew proper set us up in one of the best cities to ride in England. Huge thanks to Stu, Mikey, Eisa and Mad Jon for all that they did for us on that trip! I also got the chance to meet and ride with nearly all of the rest of the team that I hadn’t met previously. But yea, I was a bit sketched out trying to get in because of what happened last time. Though I tried to play it cool through customs, they still seen the denial stamp in my passport and detained me immediately. Luckily I got a second chance to plead my case to him, which I didn’t get last time. Stu wrote me a nice letter with all of the necessary information too, and that really helped as well! Once I was in, the rest of the trip was such a treat.

How do you think the final video is going to come out? I feel like that original one from a few years back set the bar high!
The second Brighton Ain’t Ready is going to absolutely bang. You are right, the bar was set high after the last time around. I feel like there were way more riders this time around though, and obviously the level of riding has elevated since ’08. Also, I know Ed Allen killed the game on the last video, but Mikey King held the filming down like a don! So excited to see the final product when it gets released. That, by the way, isn’t too far off… They are premiering it around the same time as Rebel Jam this year and should be available shortly after that. Eisa Bakos, who covered the B.A.R. photography, is putting together a sick collectable booklet from all the photos so that will be hella rad as well! It’s definitely going to be a must see!

So, basically these past few months you have been on the road a ton. What are your travel plans for the rest of the year looking? Anything you’re trying to make happen or are you going to be getting some time in Arizona?
Yea, this entire past summer like a huge trip for me. Left AZ in late May and hit up Philly, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, England, back to AZ, then went to South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado with my pops on his motorcycle. The summer travels were nothing short of unbelievable! However upon returning to AZ, my bank account was really feeling it. So now that I’m back on my feet in AZ, I’ll probably spend the rest of the year around here. It’s the perfect time of the year to be in Arizona anyway, so I might as well take advantage of it, right?!

What’s new with The Gully Factory these days? Anything you and Tony Malouf are working on? It’s been a while since I’ve seen a new Clippeach….
TGF always has random things going on here and there. The main project we have been working on though is the first DVD entitled “12:35”. In the last year or two, we have really been going in and saving all of our footage for it. Sitting on footage has always been our problem, but seeing everyones folders fill up with bomb clips is a huge motivator! We’ve also been really active with getting involved with jams lately, which is awesome because it creates an opportunity for different crews from different areas to all come together and ride/chill with one another. I think it’s really important for people in the scene to get involved with events like that, for it makes you appreciate this thing we call BMX a whole lot more.

How about your other sponsors, RAWr Superfoods and Vans? Anything going on with them you can tell us about?
Well the Vans thing just started up recently… But they really are the best when it comes to riding shoes! As far as RAWr goes, that stuff makes you levitate! I’ve been taking RAWr now for the better part of 2 years now, and it really does make a big difference. It’s full of natural, raw nutrients that are beyond beneficial for your body and are nutrients that most wouldn’t normally get through their everyday diet. There really isn’t a full established “team” just yet, but John and Joey are constantly doing progressive things with the brand. Soon they will have a full Skate and BMX team. They have only been a company for a few years now, and it’s so awesome and motivating to see the brand constantly stepping their game up! They just got RAWr fully certified organic, which is huge! They are working on a couple new health products as well. Truly an amazing product, coming to you by amazing people. Visit www.RAWrlife.com for the low down on the nutritional info and ordering.

Have you been getting much time behind the lens lately? Any projects you have been filming or editing lately you can tell us about, or have you been staying busy in front of it?
To be completely honest, no. Which really upsets me. Filming always has and always will be a huge passion of mine. Last year around this time, I was lucky enough to be busy with a few different video projects. But if any of you know anything about freelance videography in the BMX industry, you know that the opportunities are sometimes far and few between. You pretty much have to get lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to get a gig. Also more times than not since it’s freelance, once the gig is over you are back on the job hunt. Even though I haven’t been filming too much lately, I’ve had a lot of opportunity to be in front of the lens, which is never a bad thing. Wether it’s filming or riding, as long as I am out on my bike with my friends, I am happy.

Can we expect a new edit from you any time soon? I feel like it has been a while since you have put out a solo edit, haha.
Soon it will come. I am currently working on a promo for my signature line from Mutiny, as well as my section for 12:35. Honestly, anything substantial that I get in the next few months is getting saved for one of those two projects…

So, traveling a ton and working on a bunch of projects… What have you been getting into with your down time lately? Any new hobbies you’re into?
I like to try to always stay busy doing anything to keep my mind at ease. I have been working on a little garden in the back yard. Always trying to explore more of the Phoenix area.

How can people keep up with you these days?

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
I would first like to thank my family and friends for all the support over the years. Gaz and Grant at Mutiny for giving me an opportunity to be a part of an amazing BMX brand. Jerry at Vans for keeping my feet fresh. Joey and John Motta for keeping me beamin’. Malouf and the rest of the TGF squad for always having my back. All the rest of the people out there who support the cause, I appreciate you all!!! THANKS!

Anything else you want to say?
What.
