BMX lost an absolute legend this past weekend.
This morning we woke up to the news that U.K BMX legend The Fids has passed away after an illness. Fids was a massive part of the BMX scene over in the U.K, and his impact was felt and seen around the world at events and more. This is a big loss. Rest in Peace, Fids. You will not be forgotten.
Here’s some words from Source BMX about the news.
“It’s with a very heavy heart that we write this post. Our dear Friend Fids sadly died yesterday after a short illness.
Fids has been a constant in our lives and the BMX scene not only locally here in Hastings but Worldwide for what seems like forever. Always the best and always the most fun – Fids you will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
Rest in peace friend.
Marc, Rich, Matt and everyone at Source.

“Legends in BMX are a funny thing. We have the local variety, the lifers, the super pros…and then you have The Fids. A rider that has cut his own path, touched people around the world, and had fun the whole fucking time. Fids’ recent cancer diagnosis hit hard and it made perfect sense to honor him in the best way possible…by giving him the NORA Cup Legend Award. We’ve been slacking hard on all the NORA videos, but they’re finally finished and the plan was to make the Legend Award the last video to drop… Sadly, Mark “The Fids” Findlay passed away yesterday, December 8th.
While this entire video is already an homage to The Fids, it felt appropriate to add a couple of poignant words and show our respect… Of course Fids wouldn’t want any of us to shed a tear, but I’d like to extend my deepest condolences to his family and friends across the world. He was truly one of a kind.
Words from the NORA Legend Award he received that night:
“The Helion child. The Pirate. The friend. The laugh that has echoed through the decades of BMX. An unquestionable authenticity that brings joy to all in his presence. The Yellow S&M. The middle finger. The 360 after 360. And, of course, the nothing… For many, Fids is pure BMX—the embodiment of the, ‘Do what you want, when you want’ attitude and still having the same fun that runs through the core of every kid that’s set foot on a pedal. A true original that continues to push and defy logic. Even the Pyramids of Giza come second to the gold medz shine of Mark Findlay. The only thing left to say is… Fuck You, Fids!”” – Our BMX
“This is an interview from 2013 that was made for John Paul Rogers and Empire BMX’s now-defunct Collateral Media Site that we’re reposting in memory of our friend Mark “FIDS” Findlay who passed away on December 8, 2024 after a short battle with cancer.
FIDS started riding for S&M in 1994 and NEVER STOPPED ripping or repping The Shield. That’s 30 f’n years which makes him S&M’s longest-running sponsored rider… and since we know he’ll be sending it with two middle fingers flying for all of eternity, that’s a statistic no one’s ever gonna touch.
Fuck You Fids. You’ll be but never Forgotten.
