Review: On Mommas DVD

A while back, I was hit up about checking out a video from the On Mommas crew out in California. The trailers were looking pretty promising for a scene video so I figured it would be a good idea to take a look at the video produced by Matt Freiheit. Here’s what I thought…

Going into the video, I really had no idea what the hell On Mommas was all about. I was hoping it was some sort of hot mom hunting team that happens to ride BMX, but in BMX fashion, it’s just a crew of guys who all ride together, throw down some good riding, party, shotgun Red Bull and shoot fire works at each other. I’ll let their failure to show hot moms slide since they’ve got the rest of what BMX is all about dialed in.

This video features fullish sections from Hayden Jackson, Jordan Reid, Kyle Maraschin, Jason Menger, Scott Menger and Jon Gust. I say fullish because some like Hayden have two songs and some have part of a song. It all balances out so it’s okay.
The video also features a massive mix section featuring Kevin Kiraly (one clip), Chad Osburne, Jeron Jackson, Jesse McCrea, Chris Shargay, Daniel Kusenda, Mike Reay, Marcos Rivuelta, Allen Johnson, Josh Blau, Matt Freiheit, Jake Jackson, Alex Govin, Salt, Grayson Poe, D-Roe, Fawbs, Stephen Perjanik, Tristan Adams, Stevie Grote, Jeremy Ferraro and Joel Arbor on top of those fullish sections.

In the video, you can find about 90% street riding, a few trails clips, a couple of skatepark clips and around 6% clips of them raging. By raging I mean crashing, partying, driving in weird places, having guys who you will never hear of again rapping and hood rats dumping them out. Okay, maybe that sounds a little too promising. Only one girl kind of dumps them out.

Out of all the riding, the two that really stood out to me the most were Hayden Jackson and Jordan Reid, both guys definitely dropped some real good riding. They both also seemed to be driving forces behind filming for the video so that’s pretty cool that they were able to multi-task on the project.

Like I said before, Hayden and Jordan had a good amount of filming, along with a few others and Matt Freiheit who also edited / produced the whole video. The filming and editing, other than a few clips and the occasional random second angles that were kind of sketchy, was done well. The filming was smooth and clean and the editing flowed well throughout the video. The video runs for just under 30 minutes as well.

You can find a lot of rap in this video with a few rock songs mixed in for good measure. I didn’t see a song list, but most of it was new with like two songs that have been used before in other videos that I could think of.

Do I think you should check the video out? Well, if you are into local scene videos that feature majority of riders you haven’t heard of, funny clips of dudes getting shot by roman candles, street riding and or rap music, I think you could definitely be into this video from the Bay Area of California. The best part is, you won’t be too bummed on the price either. You can pick it up for $4 on their website.

I don’t have any clue still what On Mommas is all about, but I do know there’s a new up and coming crew from the Bay Area that’s starting to pop up and they have definitely figured out what BMX is all about. You can find out more about the crew by checking WWW.ONMOMMASCREW.COM

Here’s a few trailers of what you can expect in the real video.
