I’ve been becoming a heavy fan of Shane Weston’s this past year or two. The real clean hop nothings, freecoaster goodness and in general chill style he brings to the table is without a doubt impressive. After a few sponsor additions and changes like getting bumped up to eclat‘s pro team and being added to Dan’s Comp‘s flow team, I decided I needed to shoot him a few questions to find out more about him. Let’s take a look at what he had to say…
Name: Shane Weston
Location: Murfreesboro/Nashville Tennessee
Sponsors: Hoffman Bikes, Eclat, Almond, Dan’s Comp
Years riding: 11 years I think.
What was it that first got you into BMX? Any early memories just pop into your head?
Well, my friend Jay and I heard about the YMCA in town had intentions to build a skatepark. So when that opened we started hitting it up and I just really enjoyed it.
How are things going with Hoffman going these days? Do you have any fresh signature goods, trips, edits, videos or anything like that in the works with them?
Things at Hoffman are good. We just got back from a New York trip. The edit dropped on Tuesday I believe!
What’s new with Almond? It sounds like you guys have been doing quite a bit of traveling lately. Do you have anything in the works with them you are psyched for?
Pretty pumped on Almond. Yeah, we just did a Austin trip. First time hanging with the crew, it went very well! I just got an Email with photos of the new samples. Definitely stoked on them! Be on the look out!
You just got bumped up by éclat, right? When did that decision come about? What does Paul have in the works for you? Do you have anything else in the works yet?
Yup, umm a few months ago right after the Almond trip really. Not sure what he is thinking, but I’m anxious. Yeah, we just did the Atlanta trip a few days ago, went awesome! I dig that crew a lot! Not that I know of really. haha
It was also just announced that you are riding for Dan’s Comp’s flow team. How did that all come about? What do you have in the works with them? That welcome edit turned out so good.
Thanks man! I think it came about by Scott & Ernesto really. I can’t thank those dudes enough! Haha, not that I can think of.
Any other sponsors news you can tell us about yet?
Naw
All right, so this past year has been pretty crazy for you with a bunch of new sponsors, tons of trips and everything. What do you think of the “pro life”? Is it all you dreamed it could be?
Man, it’s pretty awesome. It’s definitely better then I expected. Traveling and being on trips with your best friends is always great time!
You have been constantly on the move these past few months it seems like. Where are some of the places you have had the chance to go and what was your favorite place out of all of them?
Went out to California to stay with Nathan for a month. Went to Austin for that Almond trip. Oklahoma is always a regular since the Hoffman headquarters is there. New York was a new place for me. Place is massive. Atlanta was the most recent and definitely my favorite. Place is pretty much a second home. Shout out to Talem and Chris Burden for being amazing.
Do you have any more trips planned you can tell us about? Where are some places you want to get to at some point?
Eclat is trying to plan some trips for something big in the works! I think California and Portland are the first trips up. Not sure when. I would like to visit San Francisco at some point. Heard nothing but amazing things.
Have you been filming for anything other than your two new welcome edits that just dropped? Can we expect to see some video parts or a few more edits out of you this year? I could go for some more edits of you from Chris Mahaffey.
Currently not sitting on any personal footage right now. Definitely needing to re-up. Chris and I have been talking about getting out together more. Dude has a unbelievable skill behind the camera and computer.
You have been pretty notorious for your freecoaster goodness. What hub are you running these days? Have you ever considered going back to a cassette? Any hubs in the works you are psyched for?
I’ve been running the Alienation Rush V2. Back to a cassette.. nope not never. Nothing in the works.
Where have you been spending most of your time riding these days? Any spots around Nashville you have been real psyched on? I feel like there’s been a bunch of new construction since the flood?
When ever I do ride Nashville I usually ride the courthouse. Not a ton of new stuff poppin’ up in the downtown area. They are building a convention center on 5th ave. Just hope we get a NBA team in that building.
I doubt that you have been getting burned out on BMX with how well things have been going for you lately, but do you have any special things you like to do to keep things fresh for you?
Haha, I definitely get burned out. But the feeling never stays for too long. I will throw pegs on the change things up. But then they usually come off.
It’s clear you have hop nothings, t-bog hops over rails from flat and plenty of other tricks on lock these days, but what’s one trick you couldn’t do if your life depended on it?
I think it’s double bars.. just can’t comprehend that trick at all.
I like this question. Let’s say you get a big budget to go anywhere in the world for a week with 5 riders, one filmer and one photographer. Who do you bring, where do you go and why?
Nathan Williams, Tyler Frederick, Seth Kimbrough, Corey Martinez, Jeremie Infelise. Chris Mahaffey to film & Andrew White to take photo’s. We would definitely stay in the South and head to Atlanta to ride with everyone there. Because we all love Atlanta!
Let’s say you never got into BMX. Where do you think you would be right now?
Definitely would have attempted to make it in the NBA! HAHA.

What are you usually getting into when you aren’t on your bike?
When I’m not riding I’m usually hanging with the girlfriend watching Dragon Ball Z
Are you abnormally good at anything other than bikes?
Dodgeball.
I doubt you are working these days, but before bikes helped you pay the bills, what was the shittiest job you ever had?
I have been pretty lucky with past jobs. But if I had to pick it would be Lenny’s Sub Shop. But don’t get it wrong.. If that place was still open I would still work there! Free food and making money.. killing too birds with one stone!
I see that you got arrested on that trip to Austin, right? What happened there? Have you been in any crazy situations since then?
Naw, I didn’t get arrested. He just scared me really good. I for sure thought I was going! Nope, no other crazy situation since. I’m pretty chill and rarely get into those situations.
What makes for a good night out for you? Are you much of a partier? Drink of choice?
Just being out with friends. Yeah we try to make going out a regular thing. I just started kind of drinking… If i had to choose it would be Vodka & Sprite.

What’s something about yourself that most people don’t know about you?
I have Obsessive Compulsion Disorder. I have to check my door to make sure it’s locked 4 times with each hand. It also effects Faucets, stove burners, unplugging the toaster, and refrigerator door being closed.
What’s the last song you heard, movie you watched and website you visited?
Current listening to Young Dro “Kush Dog”. Watched Bad Teacher last night. Last site visited was Facebook.
The last few years have been pretty unpredictable for you, but where do you see yourself in a couple of years?
Hopefully doing exactly what I’m doing now. I’m pretty content.
Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
Yup. My Pops for sure! Thanks to Mark over at Hoffman. Paul at Eclat and Almond. Scott & Ernesto at Dan’s. Friends for being there. Kurt for this opportunity, Thanks!
Anything else you want to say?
Always have fun.
