Upon arrival you’re exposed to what looks like a building straight out of ‘District 9’, completely run down, graffiti riddled and of course the tag ‘UP2PUNX’ is visible. In fact, the strip of road leading to the park appears to be much like the rest of the city, riddled in surprisingly good street art. Unfortunately if you don’t speak Slovenian none of it is readable or decipherable.
That won’t bother you though, once you start walking down the empty corridor and into a small door and realise you’re in another world. Everything changes; the entrance hall is what appears to be a run down nightclub where underground parties are hosted and there is still no park in sight. A sliding wooden door leads you to what looks like a corporate hash job of a park that was once in it’s prime and then never maintained, in fact it is the exact opposite of that though.
Four dudes with the ability to build – not surprisingly, (as one of them actually works as a builder, not the supervisor type, the hard-working borderline slave labour type), have succeeded in building themselves as well as the community an amazing indoor park out of recycled materials and years of blood, sweat and beers.
The park consists of various objects to ride, a super long kinked ledge, a box jump, spine, wall ride, roll-in, and various sized quarters and step-ups. That’s just one room within the factory-sized building. There is also a second floor with a street set up of ledges and rails as well as a newly opened mini ramp in another room on the ground floor.
Behind the mini, a concrete bowl is under construction and when it is complete it will not disappoint, the concrete is smooth and the quarters look like they are going to be perfect! The bowl opening would probably be the perfect time to check it out!
