Standard Bykes – Bobbie Altiser River Rat Frame

When it comes to BMX Frames these days, it’s not hard to have a difficult time figuring out what frame you’re looking at without graphics or any sort of branding. It’s not that BMX frames are all the same, it’s just they have gotten so dialed that there’s pretty much only small geometry changes that are needed to make that “perfect” BMX frame for riding something like street, park, transitions or dirt. It’s always rad to see a unique feature that stands out from all other frames available.

A few months back we did a Bike Check with Bobbie Altiser where he was riding a prototype frame from Standard Bykes that was in the works. At the time, it was a sample and not really a guarantee that it was going to get made, but it looks like it made it to the production line at the Standard warehouse in Iowa. The reason the frame was unique is because it utilizes brake mounts and guides UNDER the bottom brackets and chainstays, instead of the traditional spot on the chain or seat stays.

Bobbie Altiser Signature River Rat Frame from Standard Bykes

The River Rat frame starts out with the traditional STA 500 style frame using full 4130 chromoly tubing with a 75.25-degree head tube angle, 71-degree seat tube angle, 11.50″ bottom bracket height, 8.50″ standover height and a 12.875″ chainstay length. The River Rat frame is available with a 20.8″ top tube length only at this time. You can find an Integrated head tube, the Classic SBC front end gusset, Mid bottom bracket and, the biggest feature, welded on brake mounts and guides. The down tube cable guide starts on the top, then there’s a hole through the down tube to the bottom where there’s another guide before the bottom bracket and then the mounts on the bottom of the chainstays.

The River Rat frame is available in 20.8″ top tube length and Grey for the color only for $449.00 direct from the Standard Bykes website or Standard Bykes dealers worldwide.
