Steven Moxley Bike Check

It’s a well known fact that Steven Moxley is an insane rider with a massive bag of tricks. What you might not know is that over the winter he was healing up from an ACL surgery that took him out for a few months! Now that his knee is starting to get back into shape and the warmer temps are making their way to Canada, he has been back on his bike and starting to get back to his old ways of absolutely CRUSHING IT! It’s been a while since we’ve caught up with Steven, so we figured it would be a good time to take a look at his current Stolen setup and find out what’s new in his life! Let’s take a look!

What’s the newest part on your bike?
It’s all roughly the same since March.

What’s the oldest?
Definatly the brake lever

What do you usually go through the fastest?
Normally it would just be grips like you would imagine but right now I seem to be killing everything, haha. I busted both my front and rear wheels, so I’m borrowing some right now and I crushed my sprocket on a rail, haha!

I’d imagine after all these years you have a certain way you like your setup, right? Do you have to have the bars in a certain spot, certain top tube length you need to run or anything like that?
I kind of have a certain setup for things I would say, but I have noticed in the last couple years it hasn’t been as bad and I’m not as caring, haha. I need a gyro and at least 2 pegs and as long as the brakes work I should be good to roll!

Do you ever mix it up and take the brakes off or add some more pegs or are you pretty consistent?
Brakes never come off unless they break because I just cant get used to not being able to do a fufanu, haha! However, recently I have been putting on a 3rd peg and that has been a ton of fun.

Could you ever see yourself running a freecoaster?
I am not allowed to run a freecoaster! My girlfriend says it’s cheating and she won’t let me, haha. But I have thought of it recently, especially after knee surgery, but I would be a little afraid of the slack when doing manual to tricks and such.

So you have been doing it for Stolen for a while now. How are things going? Any plans of trips out to California or anything?
Yeah, its been a hot minute with the brand and they are pretty good to me! I definitely can’t complain. As far as trips go, we will see how the year plays out but my fingers are always crossed for a Cali adventure!

You’re riding for a company called, Sensus Grips, right? What are they all about? Do you have anything special in the works with them?
Sensus is awesome they are a company owned and operated by shredders Cam and Howie Zink. There grips are made by ODI and are thin and perfect from the day you put them on to the day you take them off. Nothing in the works yet but who knows….

Any other sponsor news you can tell us about?
Nothing to speak of at this moment but there maybe some changing up soon.

So it sounds like you have had a bit of a rough go the past year. Over the winter you had ACL surgery, right? How did that all go? Are you feeling 100% with it yet?
ACL surgery was indeed had over the winter. The surgery went amazing and my doc is one crazy guy that is awesome and does even better work than I could have hopped for. As for me being 100 percent that is still a weird one because I have a slight tear in my LCL as well so I may or may not need another surgery come this fall again. I will know more once I have another follow up with the doc in a month so. I’m anxiously awaiting that news.

It sounds like you recently beat up your ribs a bit, right? How much down time can you expect from this one?
As I write this I thought they were getting a lot better but I rolled over in bed and they made a weird pop/crack sound and feeling so I will be going over to the docs to have them looked at and make sure everything is ok…. Hopefully 2-3 weeks max for everything!

I know since you’ve been back from the ACL surgery you have hit up a few contests like the Toronto BMX Jam and the BMX Exams down in Trinidad. Do you have any plans on hitting a few more up this summer?
I would love to hit up a few more contests once everything is feeling good but no actually ideas or plans yet. I just go with the old play it by ear plan.

What are your travel plans the rest of the year looking like? Will you be traveling doing shows and everything?
Shows is a 100 percent guarentee for the summer and cant wait to jump in the Craz-E-Crew van with the fellas and have a good ass time!

Have you been filming at all? I think I heard some rumors about a possible street edit out of you?
I haven’t started to film yet, but I have been cruising around the streets of Toronto with Mr. Chris Silva scoping out spots for a hopeful street edit that I would like to get together this summer!

So what have you been up to lately outside of riding? Any new hobbies, jobs, school or anything like that?
Outside of BMX there is a lot of time spent on RSS feeds for technology. Mostly gadget related (phones, tablets, smart watches, chromebooks, etc.). I’m a closet nerd. I also am really into smart phone photography right now and I love to jump on my road bike and just cruise the streets and alleys to find anything from good street art, graffiti, dogs playing in the park, anything that catches my eye and that I think will look cool.

How can people keep up with you these days? Are you on Instagram, Twitter and all that?
Im a social media whore, haha!
