Amigos of Holmes – The Return of Kev

November 20, 2013

Ah man, this one is a roughy. Our friend, Matt Holmes from 2020 BMX Magazine has been diagnosed with cancer. To rally support and funds to get the treatment, a bunch of people have come together to throw a jam for him on November 30th at the Jindalee skatepark! You can find out everything you need to know on AmigosofHolmes.com! To spread the word, they put out this hilarious video featuring Kevin Keefs Neil that you definitely will want to check out. Please spread the word so Matt can get as much support as possible!

“An integral part Australian BMX needs your help so who better to raise awareness for his situation then the most integral person in Australian BMX, Kevin Keefs Neil.

Matt Holmes, mastermind behind 2020 BMX Magazine and events including House of Hammers and Spinal Disorder, is ill. Matt has had to deal with having a tumor surgically removed from his throat and is now undergoing chemotherapy to beat anything left into remission.

We, the Amigos, have enjoyed a BMX in Australia that has flourished through the coverage and encouragement that Matt Holmes has given. We are endeavouring to help support Matt in his battle by hosting a series of BMX events around Australia to raise funds for Matt’s recovery.

Come and join us at a fundraising jam for Matt at Jindalee skatepark on the 30th of November. Like us on Facebook, Facebook.com/AmigosofHolmes, follow us on Instagram @amigosofholmes and head to amigosofholmes.com to stay up to date!

Filmed by Jack Birtles and Kyle Jacobson. Edited by Jack Birtles and Mitch Wood. Directed by Kevin Keefs Neil.“

House of Hammers 2013 Video

September 16, 2013

I was wondering if a video would ever turn up from this years House of Hammers event that the guys at 2020 BMX Magazine down in Australia through. She’s a little later than planned, but damn does this video make up for it. This looks like it turned out to be a hell of a good time!

“The premise was simple: build a street set up in a night club, invite the countries best riders, have a head to head comp and then party all night. Such a simple plan on paper. However if there was ever an event that was plagued by more issues than any ever before, then House of Hammers was it.
The lead up to the event saw so many hurdles to be jumped, from dates to insurance to the set up, the build, what wasn’t changed to make the venue happy was almost only the name come the night. And then mother nature hit, blacking us (and a lot of Sydney) out for 2 hours right after we opened the doors…. With the venue calling it all off come 9pm, somehow we prevailed and the lights came back on with only seconds to spare. Persistence and a never ending desire to see the night go off made it happen. Pure punk rock BMX ethos in a nutshell. This edit is a long time coming and it to was problematic in so many ways, but it showcases what was one of the best nights of BMX and good times had in Australia to date. The riding went off and the party kept on kicking late into the eve. To all riders, thanks for coming along and throwing down on the set up, everyone that made it was stoked!
A massive thanks goes out to all our sponsors, especially Ron Bonner and Chris Harrison from The Shadow Conspiracy for making so much happen. And of course the crew at Afray, Hell on Wheels, Dishonour, Etnies and 2020. We couldn’t have done this without you.
Big thanks to Xave Koen for hosting this little production and Dre Regli for MC’n the proceedings on the night!
On filming duty for the night was Troy Charlesworth, John Young and Dave Cragg, thanks for capturing the vibe, couldn’t have done it without you, might have been a bit tied up running the show!
We’d also like to thank Jay Collier at Canon Australia for helping out with equipment and Pete Polder for the use of his boom arm along with everyone that helped haul the set up into and out of the venue alongside the best staging crew you could ask for at MegaDeck. While it was a rocky road, The Factory Theatre crew were amazing and now we’ve proved the night is killer, we’re looking to do it again.
Let us know what you think…

2020 – Young At Heart

July 22, 2013

Hell yeah! This new video from 2020 BMX Magazine featuring Will and Chris Kerr getting some time in at the trails in New South Wales is so good. Check out the video, then pick up a copy of the magazine to see the full story.

“From 2020 Magazine Issue 48:
“Growing up in central New South Wales means there’s not the abundance of spots to ride, this either makes or breaks a rider very quickly in their BMX experience. Luckily, those it makes, usually make their mark on riding or their local scene in a big way. Young is one of these unassuming pockets, where the man on the street will wave and smile to a passer by and where the scene isn’t dictated by any particular trend.”
Riders: Will Kerr & Chris Kerr.

Issue 48 of 2020 BMX Magazine is dropping in Australia this week! This issue features the wild man, Jack Birtles, monster trucking a giant tire. Find out more about this issue along with a preview below!

“We’ve been hard at work over the last month pulling together what is possibly our favourite issue to date. It’s kinda special, in that it had a lot of help pulling it together and the resulting collection of images, words, design and love that has made it onto the pages is something we’re more than a little proud of.

But enough talking the talk, you wanna know whats inside.

Issue 48 delves deep into the recovery process in our Creaky Future feature to see how injury and comeback is handled by some very well known riders including Ryan Lloyd, Paul Langlands, Claw and all intro’d by one that knows all too well the consequences of crashing; Alex Liiv. We go traveling with an intrepid crew through the highest country on the world; Nepal and locally with the Colony team on their epic Follow the Lines tour of the east coast. Interviewed this issue is the infamous Jack Birtles whose originality on both sides of the lens is nothing short of inspiring and his well deserved cover is definitely one of the raddest yet. Then we head into the backyards of both Cam White and the Kerr Brothers to see what a few thousand hours and a shovel can do for your garden along with hitting up the latest jams from around the country. And you’ve got the chance to win a Colony Sweet tooth frame.

Out this week across Australia in the printed form for $9.95 through our webstore good bike shops and newsagents, world wide via the app store in the digital form for $3.99. Limited numbers will cross the seas to New Zealand over the next few weeks too. ”
