The Ember Video

November 27, 2016

What were you doing in 2002 when this BMX video came out? Here’s one the 90East crew pulled out of the archives for your viewing pleasure. The Ember Video came out back in 2002 and it featured street and skatepark action from Jesse Williams, Joe Zuidema, Matt Carroll, Jon Demers, Junior Mejias, Keith Gratton and Lino Gonzalez. This has a real old / mid school raw feel to it and there’s no shortage of dialed clips in this. The film work is pretty rough by todays standards, but it’s still a damn good watch. Hit play and take it in!

Product: 90East – Skate Stopper Kit

June 3, 2016

90east-skate-stopper-kit

How many times have you been out hunting spots when you spot something from a distance, to roll up and find out this gem has been capped with skate stoppers? How many times have you looked at those skate stopped spots and realized what separates you from riding the spot is two screws that have a weird bit head that you haven’t seen before and you definitely don’t have in your tool kit? Well, you’re in luck because 90East have their new Skate Stopper Kit that features a 3/8″ socket driver with six attachments for the most common style of screws used on skate stoppers.

You can pick this up for $10 direct from the 90East webstore now. That should help you get back to grinding pretty quick… and leave somebody super confused as to how “those damn kids” were able to get past their high tech anti-riding devices, haha.

90East – True BMX Is A Counter Culture

January 22, 2016

90east-bmx

It’s pretty interesting to see the way BMX rallies together in weird times. It usually takes something pretty disappointing to get everyones attention and it leads to a lot of reminders of just why we all love BMX. Today, 90East have had this little note circulating to remind everyone.

“True BMX is a counter culture.
Period.
It was, is, and will always be.

Riding street is illegal.
Riding hand rails and damaging property is illegal.
Riding a skate-only park is illegal.
Building trails on others property is illegal.
Trespassing is illegal.

If you need to pervert this culture for popularity or to make money, do yourself a favor…
Stop and go get a real job.
After you have given up and left, we will still be here.

Please be kind and remember to shut the door on your way out.”

Wise and true words. At the end of the day, it’s the core brands and riders that get to decide where this ship goes. Some people might have other ideas, but as history shows, that ship only goes in a direction that is right for everyone, not just a few people who might have a more lucrative plan.

Does BMX need to work on things… Yes. It needs some real work to figure out what it needs to make it’s next step. Does slapping the entire industry in the face help? No. That’s not the wake up call it needs. It needs people that are going to work together to make the steps together and eventually it will get to where it needs to be at the right place and the right time. Forcing it and giving everyone the finger isn’t going to inspire change. At least not the change that is desired.

Long live BMX.

90East – Abdul Fofanah: Winter Wave

January 5, 2016

90East dropped this new BMX video featuring Abdul Fofanah putting in work out East. These clips were filmed over the course of the past few months with grind after grind for you to enjoy! It also sounds like the 90East crew are working on a new full-length video, so get stoked for that!

“As Winter on the East Coast begins to set in, we present this collection of footage from Abdul Fofanah. As always Abdul comes through with solid lines and unique style while cruising the streets of the North East. There will be more to come from Abdul and the rest of the crew later this year in our next full length video project. Thanks to everyone for the continued support and enjoy.

Accent X 90East – Justin Dickinson “Maine Joints”

September 2, 2015

James Meliota just hit us with a link to this new BMX video featuring Justin Dickinson going to work on street spots and a DIY setup over in Maine for Accent Collaboration and 90East! Justin knows all about jib spots and this is loaded with just that. Take a peek!

“A different approach to riding in New England is mandatory because of the older and beaten spots due to snow build up, salt and sand, bumps caused from frost in the ground, and many other location specific factors that change certain aspects of everyday riding. It takes a certain kind of mindset to really be able to take these imperfections and turn them around almost like an added bonus to what was already there. Here’s Justin Dickinson’s take on some of these spots along the way. Filmed primarily in Maine and New England. Edited by James Meliota.”
