Accent – Just Cruising – James Meliota X Umi Asano

January 3, 2013

James Meliota dropped a new Accent Collaboration edit. This is part two of the FIRST EDIT that dropped featuring footage of him and Umi Asano. These edits are crazy because they are both on opposite sides of the world and managed to work together to put one edit together. Really hyped on the concept of this and the riding is super dialed. You will enjoy this one so hit the play button!

“This is part two of this series featuring a mix of park oriented lines. Umi enjoys his local parks around the Tokyo area and James hits up transition from Maine and New Hampshire.
The music artist in the video is based out of Tokyo, Japan and goes by the name of “Mabanua”. Song name is “Talkin’ to You” which includes his very own vocals. His music features an array of funk/jazz hip hop and soul jams and many of his songs feature vocals from various international artist. He is also part of Ovall (mainly), Laidbook and Green Butter. His music really opens up the doors and sets a standard for being self produced. What also sets him apart is that he has a strong usage of live funk oriented instrumentation including live drums, bass, keyboard and vocals.

Accent Collaboration – James Meliota & Umi Asano

December 22, 2012

This new Accent Collaboration video is awesome. The riding is really good and there’s a ton of creative clips in this, but just thinking about how these guys are pretty much on opposite ends of the world sharing this video is pretty crazy to think about. I’m really stoked on this and I definitely think this is a MUST SEE for sure.

““This is the outcome of two riders sharing a mutual respect for each others work and to the idea of having no barrier in between what the world sees out of certain areas of the globe. We wanted to show that even though our languages are completely different, there is still an unspoken relation and expression through the art of bmx that simply does not need words to be understood. Both of us are video producers for our local area trying to use our cameras as a tool to make what we see echo out as far as possible so maybe someone else will catch on and enjoy the beauty of simply riding freestyle bmx. At first glimpse a rider might seem like an adrenaline junky, but everyone learns overtime your bike is an instrument used to express yourself whether it be dangerous, smooth, soulful or creative. The movements and approach to riding a bike can translate into its very own language. Similiar to how a good piece of music can instantly translate a distinct language or feeling. The bike Accents the riders expression.” – James Meliota

James Meliota Interview

“ I had to circle that basketball court and then sprint full force to get up the grass bank with enough speed. Old Port area of Portland, Maine”

James Meliota has been a rider that I’ve been a fan of since I saw one of his edits a few years ago. He brings a lot of style to the table and with each edit he has produced, he has definitely caught the attention of more people because of his unique outlook on riding. A few weeks ago I hit him up to find out a little bit more about this guy who calls Maine home. I came to realize that he’s got a pretty interesting story based on his look on different things from BMX to nature, college, work, music and life in general. There was no doubt in my mind that I needed to get him some questions to let everyone find out more. So here’s the James Meliota Interview. Check out what he has to say, then leave him some love in the comments…
