This past summer, Subrosa gave Nick Bullen the well deserved bump up to the pro team after kicking a bunch of ass on the Skeleton crew for a while! To start off 2015 right, they have given Nick his own signature colorway on Scott Ditchburn’s Thunderbeast frame along with a signature Pizza tripod seat that’s in the works as well. We were digging this shiny piece of work, so we figured it would be a good time to take a closer look at the Nickel Bullen Thunderbeast! Let’s do this!
The other day while I was moving some things around in the garage, I got caught up looking at the first aftermarket frame I ever owned. I’m sure a lot of you saw the photo above and knew instantly that the frame is Ruben Alcantara’s signature Macneil Ruben. Looking at it, I really started to focus in on the different features of the frame and just how much has changed over the years to improve frames making them lighter, stronger, simplified and easier to ride. Although this frame is from the early 2000’s and there is A LOT of history that came before it, this was one of the more progressive frames at the time. I thought it would be cool to compare the Ruben frame to some of the frames that are available today and talk about some of the changes and innovations that have come since… Let’s take a closer look!

It was announced a little while back that Mutiny Bikes are working on a re-issue of Randy Taylor’s signature Loosefer frame that will have full proceeds going to Suicide Awareness in remembrance of Randy. Today, they have placed a prototype 21″ top tube length sample up for Auction on eBay for one lucky person to win with the proceeds also going to charity! You can check out the frame and put in a big RIGHT HERE!

The Loosefer re-issue frame is made from full 4130 chromoly with a 75-degree head tube angle, 71-degree seat tube angle, 8.95″ seat tube height, 11.6″ bottom bracket height and a 13″ – 13.5″ chain stay length on the 20.666″ and 21″ top tube lengths and a 13.4″ – 14″ chain stay length of the 21.25″ version. The frame features gussets on the top and down tubes, plain gauge tubing on the top and down tube, an elliptical shaped down tube to help resist denting, removable brake mounts, a wide rear end to fit 2.40″ tires and an integrated seat post clamp. The latest version of Tony Malouf’s Beverage frame from BSD is on its way to shops and distributors. The Clear Water Beverage frame had a 75-degree head tube angle, 70-degree seat tube angle, 8.8″ standover height, 11.5″ bottom bracket height and a 13.25″ – 13.65″ chain stay length. This frame features gussets on the top and down tubes, a double butted top and down tube, tapered seat and chain stays, an extra wide rear end to fit the big 2.40″ tires, tiny drop outs, an integrated seat post clamp and removable brake mounts. The Clear Water Raw Beverage frame comes in top tube lengths of 20.3″, 20.65″ and 21″ with a weight of 4.9 lbs. More photos can be found here.
BSD have released some information and photos of the 2015 Mike “Jersey” Taylor signature WZA frame that is due to hit shops here soon. This full chromoly frame features a 75-degree head tube angle, 71-degree seat tube angle, 11.7″ bottom bracket height, 9″ stand over height and a 12.8″ – 13.4″ chain stay length. This frame features external top and down tube gussets, an extra wide rear end to fit 2.40″ tires, curved ends on the seat and chain stays to give you more peg clearance, an integrated seat post clamp, and no brake mounts for those of you who don’t run brakes. The 2015 WZA frame will come in top tube lengths of 20.6″, 20.85″, 21.1″ and come on colors of flat black, clear coat raw and the new burgundy color with a weight of 5 lbs. Expect this frame to be available in the next few weeks.

It’s that time of the year when companies start releasing their 2015 product lines that are filled with new and improved designs, new colors or just brand new products all together! The crew over at Cult have been busy getting their new range dialed in and it looks like it’s finally out now.
