Save Fort Walton Beach Extreme Sports Facility

November 16, 2014

Our friend, David Long, hit us up about some news about the Walton Beach Extreme Sports Facility that’s potentially going to be DESTROYED at the end of the year! They’re trying to save the park and are looking for support by signing a PETITION to keep the place open! Take a second and sign this thing to help keep a good place going! If you want to learn more, click here!

“Emerald Coast Dirt and Vert is the only complete extreme sports facility in the Gulf Coast. It is the home of hundreds of local bmx racers, freestyle riders, skateboarders and scooter riders. On December 31st the facility is scheduled to be destroyed for a project that does not support the current capabilities for the BMX community. Without the park the kids who make it their home will revert to riding the streets which is dangerous and destructive. The City has the opportunity to conserve the park and make it into a destination location for a growing sports industry. Destroying it for a low budget concrete skate plaza is a step backwards and displaces the hundreds of bmx riders that will have no other place to ride and train. The current budget for a skate plaza is insufficient to support the quality of park that bmx freestyle riders would be able to use and does not provide a facility for racers at all.

We ask that the City use the remaining budget to keep the current park open, improve the property appearance and maintain it with the help of a team of already established volunteers. Take pride in what it can be like you have the recreation center, soccer and baseball fields.”

Help Build a Permanent BMX Park in Santa Cruz

November 4, 2013

Our friend, Andy Maguire, just hit us up with a link that we could use your help with! They’re currently trying to rally up 5,000 signatures on a petition to get the city of Santa Cruz to stop giving them the run around and build a permanent BMX park. You can sign the petition RIGHT HERE and we would GREATLY appreciate everyone who could help share this by hitting that “Like” button up top or sharing the link! Even if you won’t ever make it to Santa Cruz (hell, I don’t even know if I will!), at least you know you helped get BMX a proper home in that city! Get on it!

Here’s a little more info…

“Basically it’s to help get a permanent bike park going in Santa Cruz. The park we have right now requires constant maintenance since the ramps are over 13 years old and are corroded by the fog and ocean air. The city is sluggish to make repairs because it is still considered a “temporary” structure. This means there is no clear future for the park, and it can get torn down easily. It also means it is hard to justify putting in money for something that doesn’t have a clear future. There are 4 skateparks in our small town of 50,000, none of which allow bikes. The city has been building small pump tracks, which you can probably guess is a feeble way to appease the bike riding community. The riders take great pride in the park, from city council meetings, working with local developers, moving the park to a new location, and finally taking on the maintenance/repair work themselves. I would really appreciate you posting this link, because the bmx community as a whole is an amazing, dynamic, and supportive group of individuals. And who wouldn’t want another place to shred? Thanks!” – Andy Maguire
