Quicky: Brian Kachinsky

If there’s one thing that I know, it’s that if there is one guy who deserves every good thing that happens to him, it is Brian Kachinsky. After what seemed like a rough patch for Brian that we will call “2013” that involved losing sponsors, having new deals fall through, moving The Bakery to a new location and then being forced to rip it all out two months later, injuries and more. It would appear that things are finally starting to look better with the start of the new year for him. It was just announced yesterday that Brian had been added to the Vans team and this news couldn’t get any better. We figured it would be a good time to get ahold of him and catch up to find out what else is new. Let’s see what he had to say!

Through The Lens: Catching Up with Jackson Ratima

Another week, another TTL in the books. The thing I love most about the column is the fact that I can shoot it, write it, and share it within a matter of days. Don’t get me wrong, my heart is with print but something about that quick turnaround is addicting to me. This week I spent some time kicking it with the homies and catching up with Jackson Ratima. I’ve known Jackson for years now and one thing always remains consistent when it comes to him and his riding; he’s married to the streets. He is known for his creative spot selection as well as his unique trick list. I recently caught up with him during a mellow Sunday session and the following will keep you up-to-date on everything he’s got going on as of late and leading into the New Year.

Aaron Smith Interview

Aaron is one of those east coast riders that has really kicked a lot of ass the past two years or so. There were always a few clips here and there, then once he started picking up a few sponsors that really gave him the opportunity to travel and ride more, his riding progressed an insane amount. These days, he’s been bouncing around all over and just killing it on everything he comes across. Christian Van Hanja and the Profoto B1 Off-Camera Flash

If Christian Van Hanja’s name sounds familiar, you have probably seen a bunch of his work in the ART BMX Magazine. There has always been something intriguing to me about getting some behind the scenes details on a photo. I don’t know what it is about it but I just get stoked on seeing exactly how someone shot a specific photo and get a little insight into the process. I suppose it has something to do with the fact that every photographer shoots a little differently, which in turn makes each story unique in its own way. I can remember studying photos in magazines and borderline obsessing about the way that they were shot and honestly over the years not much has changed. I still find myself getting lost in photos to this day with the same level of curiosity that I had when I first started shooting. With that said, enjoy round six of WYDK.

Devon’s name is one of those names that there’s a good chance you have seen. Between the handful of times we’ve featured his work here on the site, like the October Photogallery, to having a ton of his photos featured between a bunch of the different websites, magazines and brands. Over the years, Devon has spent a lot of time bouncing around the country, traveling, shooting photos and working jobs to make the ends meet so he can keep doing his thing!
We’ve featured a lot of photographers over the years and I think everyone has a good story about what it takes to make it in this industry that can be tough to make a living out of. It is definitely well over due that we caught up with Devon to find out how he got into shooting photos and just what it takes to keep living the dream!
