Product: Fly Bikes – Cobra Tube

May 12, 2015

Cobra_Tube

We don’t talk about tube too often, but we were just reminded about Fly Bikes’ Cobra tube that is pretty awesome. Traditionally, a tube is round, you take your wheel and tire off, slide it on over the rim and you’re good to go. The Cobra tube uses a linear design that eliminates the need to take the wheel off the bike to change it. You simply pull off half of your tire, wrap the tube around the wheel, then lock it together with the little tab and then slide the valve stem through the rim to keep it together. We’ve personally used this tube and did not notice any difference in the feeling of the wheel rolling with the tube in place. It’s definitely a handy tube to have when you’re trying to fix a flat with minimal tools and time.

Product: Merritt – Option Tires

May 11, 2015

merritt-bmx-OPTION_COLORS_SQ-700x700

The second new BMX tire from Merritt is their Option tire. This tire features a unique tread pattern that is smooth in the center and has deeper grooves and knurling on the sides for extra traction. You can find a thicker rubber in the center to help with shock absorbtion and increase the life of the tire, then tapers on the sides to help reduce weight where the rubber doesn’t need to be thicker. The sidewalls also feature their new “Sidewall Technology” which uses a ultra-hard, low-friction rubber compound that reduces drag from grinds and helps to increase the life of the sidewall that can wear from grinding as well.

The Option tire is available in 20 x 2.35″ with color options of black, gum or blue and a weight of 27.4 oz.

Product: Merritt – FT1 Brian Foster Tire Out Now

May 7, 2015

Merritt-BMX-FT1-Tire-Sample

Here’s some news we just spotted on Can You Dig It! Brian Foster’s signature FT1 tire from Merritt is OUT NOW. Get the full scoop on the tire direct from Merritt below!

“Trails nowadays are nothing like they used to be, very little pedaling and/or braking and the dirt is usually rock hard, it doesn’t make sense to mimic MX tires (that have to accelerate, brake and turn in soft dirt) with big knobs anymore. That lead to giving the FT1 a relatively smooth center section, to make the tire fast. Turning is when an increase in grip (instead of outright speed) is needed, lean the bike over in a turn and the micro-knobs come into play. The micro-knobs provide a perfect balance of surface area, stability and space in between for when the dirt might be a little soft still. The micro-knobs actually stick up above the main surface a super small amount, this allows them to sink into that slightly soft dirt and give an increase in surface area contact, but the amount they are raised isn’t enough to affect stability or grip on hard surfaces. At the edges of the tread pattern are smooth tread blocks that help protect the sidewall on ramps and street, you’d have to lean over more than a moto GP rider to get that part of tire on the ground, so anything in that area of a tire is about how it contacts ledges, rails, etc. Will be available in black or blue in 2.25, with more sizes in the works. The FT1 tire is designed for the way things are now, not how they used to be.“”
