When it comes to working on a BMX bike, things couldn’t be more simplistic. Over the years, the amount of tools needed to work on a bike has reduced down to a few essentials to get the job done. You can literally build up most BMX bikes with a 6mm allen key and a 17mm socket. Although that’s two tools the majority of your bike uses, there are still a handful of tools that are necessary, but something you don’t use as often like a crescent wrench or a pedal wrench. When you think about it, there really hasn’t been an animal as well known throughout all of BMX and he really was package deal with Trey.
So here’s to you Jesco, and I hope that Marty Jones can help continue to bring joy in a similar way.

Are you thinking about picking up a new BMX stem, but you aren’t really sure what all of those measurements really mean? Here’s a video Brant Moore put together going in-depth on the different measurements like reach, rise and stack height, along with a measurement you might not have heard of called extension. Along with that, Brant discusses some of the different features on stems like CNC machining for weight savings and cleaner looks, a wider stem for increased strength, the 1″ OD size that brands like Wethepeople, BSD and Cult have been trying out, the grooves that Flybikes offer on their stems, knurling, etc. Brant also covers solid and hollow bolts, and a few other things.
