If there’s one thing that I know, it’s that if there is one guy who deserves every good thing that happens to him, it is Brian Kachinsky. After what seemed like a rough patch for Brian that we will call “2013” that involved losing sponsors, having new deals fall through, moving The Bakery to a new location and then being forced to rip it all out two months later, injuries and more. It would appear that things are finally starting to look better with the start of the new year for him. It was just announced yesterday that Brian had been added to the Vans team and this news couldn’t get any better. We figured it would be a good time to get ahold of him and catch up to find out what else is new. Let’s see what he had to say!

Brian Kachinsky on Vans

January 6, 2014

BKVansbyKosman_600x

FINALLY. After being let go from Etnies, having his deal with DC fall through when they cut their ties with BMX… Brian Kachinsky finally has found himself a home on Vans! Check out a quick word he has to say about the news and then keep checking back on the site since we’ll have a little Q&A with him in the next few days up on the site!

“I’m proud to announce that I am officially riding for Vans in 2014. Vans has been in the game for almost 48 years and I’m honored to be a part of such a legendary team. Vans longtime commitment to BMX is something that our entire industry respects. Much like their current team, Vans shoes are at the forefront of progression while also always staying true to their roots and tradition. I’m happy to now be teammates with some of my favorite riders in the world. Thanks Jerry Badders, the team and everyone at Vans for having me be a part of the family. Fun times ahead!” – Brian Kachinsky

The Bakery Forced To Close Its Doors… For Now

December 23, 2013

Here’s some interesting news about Brian Kachinsky’s facility, The Bakery, which suddenly had its lease cut from the new location they just moved into a few months back. There’s no word on a new location, yet, but it sounds like a real possibility. Check out some words direct from Brian below. This is a bummer, that’s for sure.

“2013 has been the best year The Bakery has seen since it’s birth in 2011. In 2013 we have torn down, rebuilt and produced what we set to produce, quality BMX videos that highlighted some of the best BMX riders on the planet. Our Preheating, Baker’s Dozens, Special Recipes, Ingredients and Secret Recipe event all accomplished their respective goals and were a pleasure to watch and produce. Furthermore, these projects surpassed our original expectations. Combining talented people with a relentless work ethic always produces successful results.

In recent weeks The Bakery was faced with an unexpected challenge in regards to the current location. The lease agreement terms had been changed prematurely and we are unable to remain in the current location, quick action was needed. The Bakery is currently being moved into storage and the project is put on pause until a solution is reached. Two relocations in a year has been difficult, time consuming and expensive but this is not an end to The Bakery. What I have learned through all this has better equipped me for the future as I search for new options for The Bakery.
My goal from the start has been to create something special for BMX. I always want to help BMX move forward. This progress could be a pro doing a new trick, a filmer/photographer refining their skills and meeting new people, or helping the scene grow locally, nationally and internationally. I’m very proud of the work that we have done this year under that roof we called home.

As we continue to tear down the ramps/rails I have to take some time for some thanks during this transition period. A big thanks to my crew: Andrew Brady, Anthony Loconte, Paul Dybas and Tim Burkhart. These were the riders behind the lens that made this magic possible and I can’t thank them enough for being great workers and friends. Also thanks to everyone in the Chicago BMX scene who have made this place heaven on earth. There will be more great sessions, laughs and good times in the future. In addition thanks to any sponsors who we have worked with this year. Thanks for having faith and confidence in something that’s created by BMX for BMX. Most of all, thanks to everyone who’s watched a Bakery video. These are made for you.” – Brian Kachinsky

There is also an interview with Brian on the Red Bull website where he talks about the recent Secret Recipe event they held at The Bakery shortly before being evicted.

Inside The Bakery – Making Moves

December 14, 2013

Here’s the latest Inside The Bakery edit from Red Bull that has left me quite confused… This episode is based off a few months back when Brian went to Russia for a contest, but then talks about the lease agreement for the location going south… but the riding is from the new location… So I’m not sure if they’re talking about the old location or the new location that is having issues. Ah! So much confusion. Just watch the dialed riding in this.

“The Bakery heads to Russia to feed the BMX scene and to bring back winner of the Best Trick Contest, Andreev Kostya, to shred Chicago. The Bakery’s future gets shaken up when Brian hears some shocking news regarding the spot’s lease agreement. Tune in to see what the future holds for The Bakery and Brian’s BMX crew.”

Inside The Bakery – BMX Block Party

December 6, 2013

Red Bull dropped their latest Inside The Bakery video for our viewing pleasure! This time around it gives us a behind the scenes look at what Aaron Ross got into during his visit to Chicago to film his recent Baker’s Dozen Edit. Take a peek!

“Aaron Ross takes to Chicago to visit the Bakery and start filming edit’s for The Baker’s Dozen. Nick Wilbat, Kevin Porter, and the Bakery crew take to the streets of Chicago to shred and to encourage BMX riding with the locals for a good ole’ classic Chicago block party. Meanwhile, Aaron switches gears with a free coaster, taking all his tricks to the next level.“

Redbull – Inside The Bakery: Corey Martinez Back on the Bike

November 15, 2013

Here’s the first episode of Red Bull‘s new series where they give a more behind the scenes look at what goes on at The Bakery! First up, they spend some time with Corey Martinez who spent a little time at the new location a few months back after he got healed up from shoulder surgery. Take a peek!

“Pro-BMX rider, Corey Martinez, drops into the new Bakery spot for the first time to visit longtime friend, Brian Kachinsky. Corey and Brian hit the gym and train to get back up to 100% but not before shredding The Bakery and local Chicago spots with other pro riders.“

Flash Back Friday – Front Brake Magic

November 15, 2013

Over the course of the past few weeks, we’ve seen a couple really mind blowing videos from a few of the guys who are absolute animals when it comes to the front brake game these days. Obviously, in the past years brakes have really become obsolete for a good number of riders, which I mean is fine, but I almost feel like it’s almost becoming some sort of a lost art. There are so many tricks that just aren’t possible without brakes or even front brakes for that matter that kick so much ass. It’s always refreshing to see people doing things different and killing it like it was done back in the day.
Watching all of these new videos with all of this front brake magic got me thinking about not only how bad I want to get some on my bike, but a few of the guys I grew up watching who all ran front brakes. I decided since it’s a “Flashback Friday” that it would be a good time to pull out a few of these new videos and then dig in a little bit for some videos spanning the past decade or so front some of the legends of the front brake game so to speak. Let’s take a peek…
