Review: Promax – ERK Brakes

March 15, 2013

Last month during Frostbike, Jeremy Ball and myself were introduced to a brand neither of us had heard of that are more focused on racing in BMX called Promax. Going over the products, we were seeing some real quality stuff, but obviously due to it being for racing, neither of us really knew much about it. That’s when the ERK brakes caught our eyes. We were really interested in these super clean looking U-Brakes they made. After Frostbike was over, Jeremy picked up a pair for his new setup he built thanks to Deluxe to try out. After giving it a go, he decided to do a quick review for you guys to get a closer look and find out how well they worked. Let’s see what he had to say! – Kurt

Glenn Salyers Bike Check

Glenn Salyers and his red, white, and blue Redline.

Glenn Salyers is a unique individual. Glenn is polite, hard working, and innovative in everything he does. He is a talented machinist and ramp builder. His handy work with ramps can be seen at “The Kitchen Skatepark.” Aside form those abilities, Glenn is also one of the most talented riders in the Midwest. His mix of styles between both technical and burly puts him at a level of talent that many have the ambition of reaching, but few riders will ever attain. The best way to describe Glenn doesn’t come from the words above though. It comes from Mark Filipowicz, Redline Team Manager. In asking Flip about one of Redline’s newest riders, his response was simple, “What can’t be said about that weirdo?”
Moving on from Glenn’s personality and abilities, his bike is what really helps define him. Continue reading to see what bike set-up allows him to “monster truck” any terrain put in front of him.

Keith Miller and Ray’s MTB Interview

December 11, 2012

One of the best parts about living in the Midwestern part of the United States is the summers. Just as summers are amazing, winters make riding a challenge for everyone, from the weekend warriors to the most dedicated of riders. Some lucky people are able to migrate south for winter, while others do not have that opportunity.
Fortunately for those that stay in the Midwest, Ray’s MTB in Cleveland is there to help fix the winter time blues. Recently I took the opportunity to sit down with Ray’s Cleveland manager and rider, Keith Miller, to help give some background information on himself, the new ownership of Ray’s, and the park as a whole. Continue reading and see why Ray’s Cleveland is a must visit for riders of all levels and abilities. (Don’t forget to check out the Photogallery that goes along with this after the interview.)

November 6, 2012

The other day I had an email come through from our friend, Chad Ruhl. Inside it had 25 damn good photos he shot over the last few months from the sessions that were going down at Jeremy and Jared Ball’s trails in Coldwater, Michigan. There was no way we could let these go without being seen, so we put together a fresh photogallery for you guys to enjoy! Go take a peek, you won’t be disappointed!

Inside The Kitchen

March 9, 2012

All photos by Chad Ruhl
Interview and Intro by Jeremy Ball

When I first heard rumors of “The Kitchen” I was a bit intrigued. I know that many big name pros have their own private places to ride, but Brett Banasiewicz was in the process of undertaking a huge build of his own skate park that would be open to the public (plus have areas built specifically for skateboarders) which is a bit different than the private warehouses that exists in BMX today.
Needing to ride something before a trip to Austin for Texas Toast last year (and needing to borrow a flight bag), I first visited “The Kitchen” before it opened after a phone call to Brett’s dad Bill. I asked if I could come check it out and ride because my trails were under water and I wanted to ride something big, and rumor had it that this place was not only big, but huge. His response was simple, “yeah sure, if you can make it down the step down.” Now that response made me a bit more intrigued. After I got there, I understood what he was talking about.
About a week ago, I sat down with Brett’s dad, Bill, to ask him a few questions about the park (being that Brett was in Austria at the time). Check out what he had to say! After you do that, check out the PHOTOGALLERY by Chad.
