To promote the X Games, ESPN put together this spotlight of Jamie Bestwick showcasing his 5 gold medal wins at the event. It sounds like he’s real motivated to win it this year after starting to get some competition, so keep your eyes out for that.
Jamie Bestwick Interview
Head over to the ESPN site to check out an interview with Jamie Bestwick. He discusses things like his thoughts about the Dew Tour cutting back stops, X-Games adding spots as well clears up some rough air about his personal competitiveness. It’s a good read so check it.
Monster – Jamie Bestwick Vert Sessions
It’s not every day that you get a web video from Jamie Bestwick. Enjoy this one for Monster!
“Jamie Bestwick is arguably the best vert rider in the history of BMX. For this edit Jamie sessions Tony Hawk’s private ramp in San Diego, then heads to Busch Gardens in Virginia for some ASA demos. Jamie continues to progress his riding and style every time he sets foot on a vert ramp.”
GoPro HD: Jamie Bestwick – SCCA Racing
Looks like Jamie Bestwick found himself something else to be really good at on top of riding bike. This should be interesting…

Transition – Woodward Section
From my understanding, Ben Shenker put together a video called Transition and has started uploading some of the sections. Here’s the Woodward section featuring a bunch of real good riding from a number of pros who happened to be at the camp during his visit.

“The best vert rider in the world returned to his home country and put in a wild session on the vert ramp at Adrenaline Alley. It’s pretty rare to see Jamie killing a ramp that isn’t at Woodward or a major contest, so this is definitely a treat. Credit: Chris Wilmshurst”
Dew Tour Vert Finals Highlights
“Watch as Steve McCann, Jamie Bestwick, Vince Byron and more compete in the Skateboard Street Finals at the Toyota Challenge 2011, in Salt Lake City, UT”
Dew Tour Salt Lake City – Vert Results
Well… this isn’t something you see all too often. I have mad respect for Jamie, but I feel like his recent distractions with commentating and everything may have taken away from his focus. Maybe it was just an off weekend. I don’t know. All I know is Steven McCann won this weekend and that seems weird.
“Salt Lake City, Utah – Sept. 11, 2011 – Steven McCann pulled an upset win over Jamie Bestwick in today’s BMX Vert Finals. McCann landed a triple tailwhip into a flair to a no-handed 900 in a solid Super Final run to edge out Bestwick, who has won every BMX vert Dew Cup in the Tour’s seven year history. In a Super Final that saw only a four point difference between first and fifth place, McCann’s score of 92.38 was just enough to beat Bestwick’s 92.25. Vince Byron came in third with a score of 91.38.
“Everybody puts on a great performance when you get into the mindset of the finals,” said McCann of the stiff competition during the final. “We all know what we’re capable of and sometimes you just need to believe in yourself. That’s what these sports are about – going out there and putting together a run you’re happy with.” This marks McCann’s first BMX vert win on the Dew Tour and puts him in second place behind Jamie Bestwick in the overall standings. Next month’s Dew Tour Championships will see Bestwick and McCann fighting it out for the top spot on the podium and overall Dew Cup. “Make sure you guys get to Vegas,” said McCann. “It’s going to be a party, that’s for sure – party on the vert ramp!”
The four-day competition featuring skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross, is the third of four events on the 2011 Dew Tour. Over the four days, 62,273 fans experienced the Dew Tour at Salt Lake City’s EnergySolutions Arena. The Tour will conclude with the Dew Tour Championships in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, October 13-16, where the best athletes in action sports will vie for the coveted Dew Cup in skate street and vert and BMX park, dirt and vert.
You can catch all of the final runs from the day’s events here.
