This week Mat Hoffman sent through the Crazy Freakin’ Biker contest from Woodward East that went down back in 2000! I know the title says Woodward West on the video, but I think it was a typo, haha. Mat Hoffman Bamboo Bike Check

If you follow Mat on Instagram ( @CondorBMX ), there’s a good chance you have been seeing some photos of his latest creation that he has been working on… again… popping up. If you haven’t caught on by the title or the photo above, Mat has been experimenting of the possibility of using bamboo as a feasible material for BMX. The bike itself looks pretty crazy, but based on what we’ve been hearing it sounds like this isn’t as crazy as it looks. If there’s one thing we know, Mat isn’t scared to try new things and BMX is in a much better place product and riding wise because of it.
With each photo we saw on Instagram, we started getting super curious as to just what Mat was working on. We were able to catch up with him to find out just what started this whole bamboo bike idea and learn a little bit about the results that Mat has seen so far! Let’s take a peek!

I know all you old guys checking this out will be stoked. I definitely advise some of you younger guys to take a peek at these since there’s A LOT of history behind how BMX is done these days from these contests! Every Thursday from today ‘til the X Games in Austin (June 5th (11 weeks)) I’m going to share a free download of one of the episodes of the Crazy Freakin Biker Contests Series between 2000 and 2004. Each one is about an hour, so pull up a chair, or get some friends together and check out some of the greatest BMX moments, history and heart that help defined our lives and influenced who we are.
This CFB goes back to 2.24/27.00 at the Paradise Funplex in Merrit Island FL. The Pro Contest are Vert, Park, Dirt and Flatland. I also I made some other features between the contests to show what our sport looks like outside of competitions and called it “Another Perspective”. Those sections in this episode are “True Street Riding”, “How to transform anyplace into a dirt jump Mecca (9th street)” and “Hanging with Evel Knievel”.

The annual Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas went down the other weekend in Austin, Texas and it looks like it was another great success! Check out this video ESPN BMX dropped giving you a look at some of the fun that was had. Mat Hoffman is such a badass! Riding in that boot like it’s nothing.
